  Tvisla Mujeres

Video (LINK)  from TVIM of ~60-70 state police officers arriving on the island this evening and going to the Isla Mujeres police station with about ten patrol vehicles, in response to the occupation of property at the southern part of the island by a group of residents.

Video (LINK) from earlier in the evening of group members with signs saying they want a dialogue, not violence.

There is a photo of state police officers at the Maritime Terminal whose caption says there are 60 to 70 officers and it is presumed that they will go to the site of the 'invasion'.

There is an appeal for blood donations for Oscar Raymundo Pérez Rueda.

There is a video of the area of the "invasion" this morning. According to a uniformed state police officer, the dialogue took place and the people left voluntarily.

There's photos from the start of the Cosme Magana International Fishing Tournament.

Isla Mujeres Al Dia
Video of the daughter of Ligia Palma, Valeria, negotiating with a state police officer and discussing a meeting between about five people and governmental authorities. Then the reporter talks to members of the group, returns to the negotiation, then follows Valeria back to the group, where she explains about having a meeting (the audio is too soft to hear what she is saying). https://www.facebook.com/IslaMujeresAlDia/videos/764942073894838/

In this video, the discussion continues between an officer and group representatives. He is explaining that this is an illegal action, and asking them to pursue the legal options and to leave the property. The representatives are saying there is no property available for them, that authorities have ignored this problem, and they are asking him questions. https://www.facebook.com/IslaMujeresAlDia/videos/764960090559703/

Number of "invaders" increase
Invasores acrecientan su número .. [+] Ver masFull article at this list
May 18  It is  estimated that in two days, the number of people doubled from ~200 to ~400. Supporters & representatives of the 'invaders' are saying that this property is an example of land that politicians have taken for themselves that should have been distributed to the islanders.Ligia Palma said that the lots were assigned to politicians and former Mayors, giving names. The Catastro director said the property isn't in the municipal deed registry/database so must still be under the responsibility of the State. The City's hands appear to be somewhat tied by legal limitations associated with the upcoming elections, including currently having no Mayor in office while he runs for reelection. The 'invaders' are asking for a dialogue with the Governor, but it appears he sent negotiators and dozens of state police officers. See translations above...the group left voluntarily and peacefully.

SINTRA operation against illegally rented golf carts
Inicia Sintra operativo contra carros de golf en arrendamiento irregular.. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
During the operation yesterday, several golf carts were stopped with tourists on board, and the vast majority were allowed to leave. However, the same fate did not happen to the blue vehicle, whose driver had no explanation, since apparently, for two weeks it had been passed to several foreign "friends". (ya llevaba dos semanas paseando a varios “amigos” extranjeros.).
It also says: According to official data there are ~830 golf carts that operate from 27 rental agencies, but, according to Rene Contreras, head of the Cart Renters Association, a similar amount of carts would be in the hands of private individuals, with plates for their own use, with about 120 to 150 being used for tourism. (Usually the estimate for privately owned carts is ~400). And one of Wato's taxis is still impounded for alleged 'cloning'...they're still trying to sort out the paperwork about which of the two taxis is legit, apparently

Turtles begin mating and nesting in May. They can be observed mating offshore from Punta Sur during this month, and they nest along the eastern beaches. Tortugranja staff and volunteers gather the eggs and incubate them in the sand in a pen outside the facility. This is the dry season when farmers burn brush from their milpa-fields on the mainland, and salt was gathered at Salina Grande lake for hundreds of years, until the mid 1900's.
