Entrepreneurs of Isla Mujeres ask that the alleged unsuccessful execution be thoroughly investigated  LINK
-    Following the detonations by firearm on Tuesday in the parking lot of Chedraui, business owners have expressed their concern and demand that authorities investigate thoroughly and get to the bottom of these events.
Guadalupe Martínez Márquez, President of the Isla Mujeres Hotel Association (HIM), requested they follow through effectively and that the investigations be conducted to determine the facts behind these events.
She said, "We business owners must get involved and work closely to ensure security, and we must all do our bit, not just demanding security.
She recalled the issue of the "Warnings" about Playa del Carmen and therefore said that the authorities work energetically in order to not reach a situation like the one that occurred in Playa.
In relation to the old proposals about the installation of security cameras, she said that it would be a fabulous idea and even place the same 'security arches' that were installed in the Maritime Terminals of Playa del Carmen, to prevent people from bringing weapons into Isla Mujeres.
"This is one of the important destinations where hundreds of tourists and workers enter daily, I think it would be worthwhile to consider this type of equipment for Isla Mujeres," she concluded.

Hotel occupancy: 80%
Ocupación hotelera: 80.39% [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Occupancy is expected to increase next week during the Easter vacation holidays and could reach 100%. Last year at this time, occupancy reates on the island were 59%. There are 1726 hotels rooms on the island that are included in these statistics. In addition, there are an indeterminate number of houses and private rooms that are being rented to tourists, which are usually offered on internet pages among the foreign community. Some of these are registered with the Treasury and paying the required 3% hospitality tax, with the pace of construction on the isle, where new houses appear at the blink of an eye, in Isla Mujeres you cannot have a real understanding of the number of tourists actually staying at this holiday destination.
Although the rough seas kept the small boats in port, limiting nautical recreational activities, including tours to Farito and MUSA, tourists enjoyed swimming, sunning, renting golf carts, and other activities.

Operation implemented

The attempted execution perpetrated on Tuesday morning in the parking lot of Chedraui, unheard of for the quiet island, mobilized the security forces of the three levels of government, who implemented an operation at the Maritime Terminals, both in Isla Mujeres and Puerto Juarez and several points of the location, which included personnel with the Navy, State Police, Public Security and Tourist Police.
`The scope of the operation reached the API maritime terminal in Puerto Juarez, the Punta Sam ferry terminal, and the private facilities of Gran Puerto, where personnel of the Navy were already present, since last month when there was explosion on the Caribe I ferry at the Playa del Carmen pier, while passengers were disembarking.
From the first moments that the bullets were heard in the supermarket parking lot, personnel with the Navy of Mexico were mobilized. They were stationed in the API (Port Authority) Maritime Terminal and its surroundings, as were civil officials (oficiales de civil)  and Agents of the Ministerial Police, who were all on alert for anyone who might be suspicious, which generated curiosity among tourists who entered by sea on the ferries. They would probably feel safe in the face of such vigilance, although perhaps somewhat disturbed by the weapons that the soldiers and police carried.
However, when employees of the three ferry companies were consulted, they all said that they didn't observe any signs of nervousness or fear among the visitors.
An employee of one of the ferry companies mentioned that she did notice that, among the islanders, many spoke of the shooting, a unique event in the town and only comparable to the execution of a taxi driver inside his cab about two years ago in colonia Ampliación La Gloria
The maritime terminal and its surroundings were literally 'shielded' (blindado) by Naval personnel,  in addition to officers of the Municipal Police and Tourist Police, who crossed the Rueda Medina Avenue to the beach area or guarded the entry of API facilities.
Even a Navy helicopter joined the tasks and for several minutes flew over the island at a low altitude, from end to end; however, there is another unofficial version that claims that special forces were traveling in the helicopter which arrived to the island at the request of the municipal authorities.

Violence comes to the island

An attempt was made in broad daylight, with at least six shots, to execute a presumed narco-criminal in the parking lot of a well know supermarket, which is located a short distance from the police facilities. Apparently, the target managed to escape unscathed from the attack, after repelling the aggression, and in a matter of seconds disappeared from the scene, as did the attackers, a man and a woman, who apparently escaped by motorcycle.
Shortly after the incident, photos of a "narcomanta" (banner) found somewhere on Isla Mujeres began to circulate on social media, which has been removed by municipal police officers, without any public notice.
On the banner, a group calling itself "La Barredora" (the Sweeper) granted 48 hours to Mayor Juan Carrillo and Police Chief Jaime Ongay, to dismiss Commandar Leyva Cordoba, who the banner accused of working for "Los Zetas" cartel.
Islanders and tourists who were inside the Chedraui supermarket were shocked when the barrage of bullets were heard, which were meant for a person about board a black Pontiac sports car with Yucatan plates YWX 343 B, who apparently managed to get away. According to unofficial information, the target boarded a taxi, while the couple escaped on a motorcycle, but no other details were given.
Around nine o'clock in the morning, the tranquility was broken by the sound of bullets, heard by the customers and employees who were upstairs from the parking garage, like any other day, and didn't know what was happening. Then, once calm resumed, some curious people went down to see what had happened, but they only observed some parked vehicles, and a black Pontiac with a hole in one of its side from a (bullet) impact, and several bullet casing on the floor nearby, with one of them unspent.
The police were immediately notified and a few minutes later a municipal patrol car arrived, and the officers followed protocol by coordinating off the area, to prevent contamination of the crime scene, however prior to their arrival, there were several customers who crossed the parking lot and walked near the Pontiac on the way to their vehicles.
As soon as the extent of the incident was known, which is unusual on the island, the municipal authorities requested assistance from the Navy and the state police, immediately activating security protocols.
Experts with the ministerial police worked the scene in search of clues, and lacking cones, they placed Styrofoam cups to mark the place where the bullet casings had landed.
Some people witnessed the violent events and thanks to this, it was possible to obtain the official information that the execution attempt was committed by a couple on board a motorcycle, who shot at a person who was on their way to the parked vehicle, with their purchases. According to the witnesses, he repelled the attack, and when the attackers saw that their attempt had failed, they decided to depart, while the alleged narco-criminal (target) went out into the street, where he presumable to into a taxi.
Downtown, in the colonias, in the markets, in the Maritime Terminal, and of course, in social networks, the topic of conversation wat the bullets, and to a lesser degree, the narcomanta that many users saw on social media.

The Mayor speaks

Regarding the events that occurred in the parking lot of the supermarket, Juan Carrillo Soberanis said that this event, without a doubt, affects the tourist image and said that work is being done in coordination with the Mexican Navy and state authorities to ensure that this does not happen again. In a telephone interview, the mayor said that the support of the Ministry of the Navy and the authorities of Benito Juarez was requested to safeguard the port facilities and find the alleged criminals.
Regarding the narcomanta that began to circulate on social media on Tuesday, the Mayor pointed out that it was found on Friday at 11:40am and was immediately removed, so it could very well be that this is not a coincidence.
He said,  "The Navy has not informed us of any criminal groups on the island or of  any attempts to heat things up (calentar la plaza) and, in this sense, we will not allow people with hidden agendas to mar the name of Isla Mujeres, which is the safest municipality in Quintana Roo; we will continue working to provide security to the citizens."

NOTE: SIPSE reports that the target was Mario N. aka "Apo", and that he was inside his black vehicle when the incident occurred, which has a bullet hole in it, and that the attacker's motorcycle was black. It says sources with the municipal police indicated that "Apo" is a drug dealer on the island. https://sipse.com/…/intento-ejecucion-balazos-camioneta-mot…
QRoo Grafico reports that the target's name is "Apolinar" aka "Apo", a presumed drug salesman, who had departed the store with his purchases when the incident occurred, and that all the bullet casings were 9mm. It said he returned the aggression, causing the attacker to leave, and the target left on foot. The Navy conducted a security operation that included patrols in the Maritime Terminal, including Punta Sam. http://www.quintanaroografico.com/archives/148769
NotiCaribe reports that the target was a woman.http://noticaribe.com.mx/…/intentan-ejecutar-a-mujer-en-is…/
