From the Municipal Facebook site.....  (  FB page link)

It says: Playa Norte once again made the list of the ten most popular and beautiful beaches in the world.
The beauty and appropriate services of North Beach are recognized with the Whire Flag certification that is granted to destinations with high quality standards.
Defined as "a beautiful. peaceful beach with shallow water", Isla Mujeres North Beach occupies a place, for the second consecutive year, on the list of the 25 best beaches of the world of the Traveler's Choice Awards 2018, remaining in the tenth position.
These are the very important awards granted by TripAdvisor, the largest travel site in the world, and the only awards in the tourism sector that are based on millions of opinions and comments from travelers from around the world, and reflect the best in regard to the service, quality and customer satisfaction.
José Castillo Magaña, general director of Tourism, said that one of the main commitments of the municipal government is that all visitors take away an image of Isla Mujeres as a clean municipality with attractive tourist sites, as this benefits the economies of island families that in one way or another have tourim as their main sustenance .
He said, "We look forward to receiving the 2017 and 2018 Traveler's Choice Awards during this year's Tourism Tianguis convention,, which will take place in Sinaloa in April."
The fact that Playa Norte is on the list of the 10 most popular beaches in the world and is the only Mexican resort with a place on this list brings great benefits to Isla Mujeres, because it represents another reason for thousands of visitors, national and foreign, to come to the municipality, providing important economic benefits to all island families.
It should be noted that this recognition was granted in large part due to the coordinated work of the three levels of government and the City of Isla Mujeres, who perform continuous work for the cleanliness and safety of this beach, which caused it to receive the important distinction " White flag".
This means compliance with regulation 120 with the inclusion of measures to protect the environment at Mexican beaches,  taking care of water quality, solid waste management, coastal infrastructure, biodiversity, safety and services, environmental education and noise pollution, guaranteeing tourists that visit a clean and well-maintained space.
Every day, starting at an early hour, the important work of keeping the beach clean is done by the staff of  ZOFEMAT (Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone),  who carry out the cleaning and all the care that the beach needs in order to comply with the requirements for certification.
The municipal government reaffirms its commitment to continue working at the care and maintenance of the beaches and tourist attractions of Isla Mujeres, helping to increase the tourist influx, for the benefit of the citizenry.

North Beach is the only Mexican beach on the "Traveler's Choice 2018" list.

Navy rescued two more fishermen who were adrift LINK
Naval personnel based in Isla Mujeres rescued two Mexican fishermen who were adrift in a small boat named "Cecilia"  12 kilometers (7 nautical miles) to the southwest of Isla Mujeres, due to a mechanical failure of their outboard engine. In response to this problem, a "Defender" type boat was immediately sent out from the Naval Maritime Search, Rescue and Vigilance team of Isla Mujeres, and after contacting the small boat, they were able to locate it with the crew on board.
The Naval vessel towed the fishermen's boat to the Naval pier, where Naval medical personnel performed evaluations of the crew members, and found them to be in good health.
With these actions, the Department of the Navy-Armada of Mexico, as the National Maritime Authority, reaffirms its commitment to the citizenry to safeguard human life at sea, as well as ensuring that Mexico has clean, safe and efficient ports.

Section of Rueda Medina closed while electric pole is replaced downtown LINK
Work was done to replace an electric pole on the main street downtown, after repeated complaints over the past year from business owners about its poor condition. Orlando Roque, Superintendent of the CFE (Federal Electrical Commission) in Isla Mujeres, explained that at a very early hour they had coordinated with the Public Security Directorate of Isla Mujeres to proceed with the closure of a section of one of the lanes of Rueda Medina from south to north and thereby to prevent any person  or vehicle could be affected or injured and to prevent any interruption of this work.
When the hardware was removed from the post in poor condition, several pieces fell from the top of the pole, which could have caused serious damage to anyone going through the area, which was exactly the reason that access was closed for all vehicles and people.
The CFE workers said that in the next few days they will also replace another post in poor condition on this same street.

See translation in the TVIM section above. Preparations begin for Easter Week
Inician preparativos de cara a la Semana Santa [+] Ver 2masFull article at this link
With less than a month until the beginning of Easter Week, the organizing committee of the Via Crucis began to prepare the more than 50 actors who will be involved in the representation of the Passion and Death of Jesus on March 30th. Preparations began Tuesday night on the Town Square in front of the Immaculate Conception church, when it was confirmed that for the third consecutive year Jesus Christ will be portrayed by Wenceslao Trejo Martínez. He has already begun his physical and spiritual preparation to play the very important role.
One of the organizers, Gibran Mex, said that another large Via Crucis will be set at the chapel of Sacred Heart of Jesus church in La Gloria, for a long journey of five kilometers to the Immaculate Conception church, where the crucifixion will be performed, as it has been reenacted for the past three decade. (A previous article noted they will pause at the Guadalupe Chapel in Salina Chica).
Easter Week will begin on Sunday, March 25 and end on April 1, with the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Sunday. On Friday the 30th, the massive reenactment will be held, which  takes place on the island every year. Rehearsals will take place nightly at 8:30pm, and many of the same parishioners will play the roles as previously, with some new actors.

Electrical company changes poles in poor condition
La CFE realiza el cambio de postes en mal estado+] Ver masfull article at this link
See translation in the TVIM section above. It is noted that the CFE plans to replace two electrical poles in the vicinity of the Community Hospital on Friday, and on Wednesday they intend to replace a pole in front of North Beach. The CFE has an inventory of about 30 concrete poles that just arrived to be used to replace poles which have deteriorated. The poles have a life of about ten years, which is usually reduced by deterioration of the steel inside of them, due to salt.
It is noted that the pole that was replaced on Rueda Medina had been reinforced at its base by an individual, and last week a piece of concrete fell off of it, on a policeman who was passing thru the area. There were concerns that it could hurt one of the thousands of tourists who pass thru the area daily, as well as local residents. Neighbors in the area say that there were many reports for more than a year, before the CFE replaced the pole. The street was blocked during the work, which took several hours.

Dispute between neighbors over adjoining wall
Empresario busca que liberen su muro colindante. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Businessman Víctor Román Arriaga is having a disagreement with his neighbor concerning his wall, which is between their properties located downtown on Hidalgo Avenue, a few steps from the Town Hall. He wants to do general maintenance to his house, but he can't because his wall is occupied by the business, leased by businessman Adalberto Sánchez.
The director of the municipal Cadastre (deed) office, Josué Francisco Villanueva Vargas, verified the adjoining properties and concluded that there is no problem with location of lot 2, block 13, Supermanzana Uno, Hidalgo Avenue, Colonia Centro, which located between Madero and Morelos streets, except that his neighbor from the south used a wall.
Because of a palapa that was built, rainwater enters the wall, weakening it. He has not had success with seeking mediation from the municipal authorities, so he is thinking of taking his case to the State Human Rights Commission to try and assert his rights.
"I do not want to leave a problem to my children," said Don Víctor Román, showing documents, photographs, and describing the problem. He acknowledged the construction of a window in the wall, which he says will be filled in when this problem is fixed. He said the problem was not solved by a chamber built in a section of the wall by the the tenant of the property of Mr. Adalberto Sánchez. He wants the entire length of the wall to be respected, as was the case with the 24 meters of the northern wall.
He recalled that at the time he appealed to the representative of Mr. Adalberto Sánchez, but he showed no interest in solving the problem, letting his landlord know that he needed to build his own wall. There was irresponsible on their part in this case. If no progress is made on this case through dialogue, then legal options will be considered in order to resolve the dispute.
