The island has important certificates, such as the "Blue Flag", which thanks to the efforts of the municipal government, headed by Juan Carrillo Soberanis, was awarded to Playa Centro for the period 2016-2018, due to the optimal conditions of beaches. The ZOFEMAT (Federal Zone) agency continue their work to keep the beaches clean and of the high quality.
Due to the rains that are expected throughout the municipality, President Juan Carrillo has instructed the staff of Zofemat (Federal Zone) and Protección Civil to continue with the work of cleaning the streets to prevent flooding. Please clean up any trash outside your home and keep yourself informed through City networks.

Red Cross begins courses

Red Cross training courses in the operation of emergency vehicles will being on Friday. The courses will last 12 hours a day, from 8 am to 8 pm on September 8, 9 and 10, and will be taught by instructors from the National School of Specialties. (Escuela Nacional de Especialidades).
The requirements are: current driver's license; being a Medical Emergency Technician (EMT); being at least 22 years old; a minimum of three-years driving experience; medical certificate issued by the IMSS, Issste or SESA; having a current National Credential; and copy of your CURP. The cost for the course is two thousand pesos.
The course to become a Medical Emergency Technician will begin September 23, and take place every Saturday, from 9 am to 5 pm, for 12 months. That course will be taught by personnel of the National School of Technicians in Medical Emergencies of the Mexican Red Cross.The requirements are to be 18 to 35 years of age; an attitude of service and discipline; good health and fitness; education of high school, high school equivalency; CURP, voters credential; medical certificate by the Red Cross; and two photographs. Registration is 650 pesos, and a monthly payment for that amount. Registration is at the local Red Cross during office hours.

Sept. 2 The Harbor Master closed the port for small boats in Isla Mujeres because of the effects of the tropical wave number 32 and tourism has declined due to rain since noon. Rain is also forecast for Sunday (it has been raining today). There was a power outage downtown just before 1pm that lasted for about 15 minutes. There has also been complaints about interruptions and outages in internet service from customers of both Telmex and Izzi. Those using satellite dishes for TV reception have also had problems, but fewer and some have had outages of cell phone service which was a connection problem in the region in general, according to the comments online in recent days (by 'netizens').
Adaptation begins of Maritime Terminal

The Port Authority (APIQRoo) has begun the process of adapting the Maritime Terminal to avoid the lines that extend outside of the building during high season, by withdrawing the permit from a commercial facility inside the Terminal. They also plan to reclaim the wooden pier that served as a gateway for this destination for a century ("the Magana ferry pier"), where a restaurant opened very recently. Both permissions were granted under the last administration, and this was announced in a statement released by the agency on Friday.
The Director of ApiQRoo said she has ordered the legal department to initiate the "process of revocation of the concession that has a commercial premises on the wooden pier". Regarding the need for more space within the Terminal, she said, "An official order has already been issued to vacate a commercial premises located inside of the Isla Mujeres Maritime Terminal, which hinders the transit of users." She said the mobility of passengers in the port terminals of ApiQRoo permit the economic benefits of tourism for the various sectors of the population of Quintana Roo, which is their institutional responsibility.
Between January and July there was an increase in passenger traffic of 11.2%, with 1,417,160 passengers this year, compared to 1,274,406 during that period in 2016. The increase compared to July of last year of boats for tourists and passengers was 94.5% and 25.5% respectively. This year in July there were 961 tourist boats, which is 467 more than last year, when there were 494, landing 32,155 passengers
. In that same month, the car ferry brought brought 38,817 which represented a general increase 16.7 percent. This is an increase of 17.6 percent compared to July last year when the cargo ferry transported 34,343 passengers. As for the passenger (Ultramar) ferries, they experienced an increase of 3.9% by transporting 465,343 passengers during July.

Within ten minutes walk are the restaurants Mango Cafe, Brisas, Manolitos, Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, and the large department store-grocery Chedraui. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Attend Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants. It takes 20-30 minutes to walk downtown.

Festival of Our Lady of Charity of Cobre
Daily at 6p throughout the festival, a novena will be offered. Each group will celebrate a different night. The Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre is the patroness and protector of fishermen.
Friday, Sept. 1, the group of the Virgen de la Inmaculada Concepción church,will gather on the Town Square, with the company Espartacos Tour, which includes entertainment by the group Añoranzas.
Saturday, Sept. 2, the group of the church Sacred Heart of Jesus will gather, in colonia la Gloria, with the family Iuit Tun, which will feature entertainment by Zak Najera and his keyboards.
Sunday, Sept. 3, the group of the fishermen's cooperative "Caribe" will gather, with the comedy show of Julio Martínez

Friday, Sept. 15. Grito of Dolores Celebration on the Town Square in the evening and the Mayor will read the Grito from the balcony of the Palacio Town Hall. The festivities usually include a performance by folklorico dancers, coronation of the queen, live music & dancing, and fireworks. The Grito of Dolores is a Cry of Independence, from 1810 when Hidalgo called for the people to revolt from Spain. Every Sept. 15 around 11pm, the Mayors (and Governors and President), ring a bell from the balcony of the Palacio on the Town Square, and give a traditional speech which includes the names of heroes of the war for independence. This is followed by three shouts of ¡Viva México!, more bell ringing, waving of the Mexican flag, and the National Anthem may be played.
