There are several locations available to donate to victims of the earthquake in Chiapas & Oaxaca including the Red Cross, CRIM, Chedraui & Mango Cafe. They are seeking non perishable foods & personal hygiene donations, including diapers, detergent, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.

There's a notice from yesterday about Rueda Medina being closed this morning during the parade, which began at the Naval base and went to the Fishermen's monument. And video & invitation to come and dance and enjoy the music of El Pulpo y sus Teclados after the Grito, last night. And another for MegaBoom. There's a schedule for last night, and this morning parade (see events section).

Isla Mujeres al Dia has four photos and reports: The Mayor said that celebrating with these festivities is important, not only as a day when the Independence of Mexico in commemorated, but also to share the traditions and culture of our country with visitors. He said these events benefit the economy by attracting tourism, while providing family oriented enjoyment and entertainment for the islanders.
"Organizing these events allows our destination to continue to gain the attention of visitors, who can participate in our festivals and learn more about the traditions which are enjoyed by our families," said Mayor Carrillo Soberanis.

The Port Authority filed a complaint with PGR for invasion of the port area (by boats of local fishermen) LINK
On August 24, the Port Authority of Quintana Roo (APIQRoo) filed a complaint to the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR) for irregular occupation in a space within the port, concerning an area occupied by at least 60 vessels. Personnel with APIQRoo confirmed the story and said that although the boat owners have been approached, they have shown no intention to withdraw voluntarily.
"We know that they have tried to regularize the federal zone, which they have not been able to do, and they won't be allowed, because it is a port and APIQRoo is responsible for that space," said APIQRoo staff.
The Port Authority has ruled out the idea of anyone being able to have a concession in this zone because it is considered as a reserved area of the port. They say it has been misused, since work is being done with fiberglass, as well as mechanical work, and there are even irregular constructions (palapas and sheds). He said that there have been several thefts in this area, coupled with the trash that always exists.

CONANP: Whale shark licensees will be subject to new rules LINK
The Regional Director of the Mexican Caribbean and Yucatan Peninsula of the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas (CONANP), Ricardo Gómez Lozano, said that the renewal of permits for next year will be subject to the results of the inspections that were done this year. He described the results of this season as a "model" season. It is noted that this season is nearly over.
He said, "250 authorizations were issued, some of which are under review, in relation to port authority procedures, and we will also consider the results of the inspections, including both those done by us and those done by the Federal Environmental Protection Agency."
He said that during the current season of observing and swimming with the Whale Sharks, several actions of supervision and surveillance were conducted, including by the Department of the Navy. He did not specify the number of 'levantadas' (citations) that were issued this season, but he stressed that these will be taken into account regarding the renewal of permits next year.
He said that citations were issued against vessels with and without permits who carried out activities in an irregular manner, and therefore, sanctions will surely be given. The regional director of CONANP, said that after meetings with permit holders, it has been decided to continue with granting only 250 permits and no more.
The official lamented that there were some people who decided to ignore the law and went out, who not only jeopardized their permits, but also their business. He said, "We were very clear from the beginning that those who risked going out without having a permit in hand and were sanctioned, will not be able to obtain their permit for next year."
He said that only the responsible permit holders and those that worked hand in hand with the authorities, protecting the species, will be the ones who will definitely continue.
He said that one of the proposals that was made with the permit holders was that there should be no more than 120 boats per day, which was fulfilled through the good practices that they proposed. "It is necessary to recognize and applaud that they themselves seek to protect the species by taking measures like that of compulsory rest," he said.
Regarding the complaint that some permit holders have more than 10 authorizations and others with three were having problems, the official said that since this year he has been talking to several of them, seeking to reduce the number of their permits. He said, "We do not want to play favorites, but with those that still have several permits, if they do not comply, they are at risk of losing them."

The party usually lasts all night long. The Grito of Dolores is a Cry of Independence, from 1810 when Hidalgo called for the people to revolt from Spain. Every Sept. 15 around 11pm, the Mayors (and Governors and President), ring a bell from the balcony of the Palacio on the Town Square, and give a traditional speech which includes the names of heroes of the war for independence.
