The "Feria del Arte y El Sabor" / Art & Food Fair will begin on the Town Square today at 5:30 on Tuesday, to kick off the festivities for the 167th anniversary of the founding of the town. There will be a procession through the town for the Night of Traditions and a performance on the Town Square with the orchestra from Felipe Carrillo Puerto and a performance by a dance troupe with jaranas starting at 8:30.
See the Events section below for the rest of the information in this article, although this says all the events are taking place on the Town Square, except the Electronic Festival on Playa Centro, but the program says Wednesday's events are at the Casa de la Cultura. This says the wreath ceremony will depart from the ferry dock, but the program specifies the car ferry dock, which is where it usually occurs.

At the Tortugranja, we take care of the eggs of turtles that come to nest on the beaches of Isla Mujeres. We incubate them in the sand and once the turtles are born, some are placed in pools and others are released to the sea to continue the life cycle. (Note: They are all eventually released.)
Join our work! It says...
Their protection must be faster than their extinction

There's a video of a nesting turtle, photographed under red light.
The caption says: "The Tortugranja needs volunteers 🙋🏽🙋🏽 for the protection of sea turtles 🐢 and their nests🥚 during this nesting season! Come to their facility from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a copy of your official ID and join this noble cause."
The video says..."This is a record breaking year for turtle nesting in Isla Mujeres, thanks to the coordinated work between the three levels of government in the monitoring of the nesting areas. Volunteer to join us in the protection of sea turtles!"

Attend 🎉 # Isla Fest 2017 🎆🏝🎇 from August 15 to 20 and enjoying gastronomic and cultural fairs and the presentation of more than 50 artists on stage 🎭, among them Pierre David, MERENGLASS and Super Lamas.

The video captions say: We invite you to participate in the festivities for the 167th anniversary of Isla Mujeres with cultural events, music, and a lot of fun! August 15-20.
The "Island Fest" will be held from August 15 to 20 to celebrate the 167th anniversary of Isla Mujeres. It will bring together more than 50 artists on stage, including the well-known comedian and imitator Pierre David and the musical groups "Merenglass" and "Super Lamas", as well as Art and Food Fairs, Traditions Night, the traditional floral offering to the Cruz de la Bahia, and an electronic music festival.
Mayor Juan Carrillo Soberanis said, "For this administration, it is very important to maintain the traditions of our people and to commemorate important dates for the history of the municipality. This is why we will celebrate one more anniversary of the foundation of the island with the 'Island Fest', which will offer islanders and visitors fun activities and opportunities to spend quality time with their families." The program of activities includes cultural events, art, music, food, and lots of fun.
The Mayor reaffirmed his commitment to carry out quality events that contribute to the tourist promotion of Isla Mujeres, benefiting all of the island families and of course, celebrating the most commemorative date for this Pueblo Magico.

There are many reasons why the sea turtle population is in danger of extinction, but human beings are the main cause. Their mistreatment and consumption are crimes, if you see someone hurting a turtle, report it!

Sunday night, the Noches Magicas program in Isla Mujeres provided an evening full of music and color with talented performances and excellent entertainment. The event featured island singers Aldahir Dávila and César López, the impersonator Zavaleta Dupreyn, the DIF Senior Citizens Choir,  and the group Passion for the Dance (Pasión por el Danzón) of Quintana Roo. Representing the Mayor, Juan Carrillo Soberanis, the Secretary General of the City Council gave  recognition to the invited artists for their participation and he asked for a minute of silence in honor of Island musician and composer of La Trova Isleña band, Don Emiliano Martínez Pérez, who passed away this weekend.

Potential risk in colonia La Gloria

There are concerns that a child could be electrocuted because the cover of an electrical box fell off several months ago and has been replaced by a wooden lid. Neighbors have been keeping children away from the area and replacing the cover when the wind blows it off. They say that the authorities have been notified, and that it would be best to have this repaired before classes resume next week.
There are also ongoing concerns about the Mundaca Palapa, which was closed a few months ago, and it is not known if a sanction will be given to the company that built it. Temporary supports have been added.
