Also see TVIM article below.  This article says: August 12.   A group of environmentalists from various parts of the state and Isla Mujeres, are offering a reward to anyone who provides information about the person who caused the death of an adult turtle in recent days, in the area of the Caribbean Sea.
The reward is offered a few days after staff of the Municipal Ecology Department were notified of the incident and responded. They confirmed that the predator hit the turtle, of the species "Green", in the head with a rock to kill her and tried to remove the meat, but fled and abandoned his prey when he realized he had been discovered.
Through social networks, this group has offered a reward of $1900 dollars to anyone who provides information about the identity of the alleged perpetrator, and this amount could increase in upcoming days. As of yesterday, that was the amount offered and this is expected to increase and to exceed $2000 dollars. (The GoFundMe account linked to an English language social media group with five contributors has $825 usd and a goal of $2500. It says they will donate the money to the Tortugranja if the perpetrator isn't found. It is  here.)

We are a # Pueblo Magico✨ leader of the Mexican Caribbean🌴, recognized as one of the most beautiful destinations worldwide and also for the job opportunities offered to all families.👉🏻 https://goo.gl/xSYV8B
During the summer vacation period, thousands of tourists visited this Pueblo Magico and general hotel occupancy exceeded 90%, which is attributed to promotional efforts of the City, led by Mayor Juan Carrillo Soberanis. This has had an important, significant economic impact on the entire community of Isla Mujeres and confirms its leadership as a world class tourist destination and one of the most visited sites of the Mexican Caribbean.
At present this is one of the busier ports of Quintana Roo, especially during holiday periods, surpassing occupancy rates of previous years. In addition, Isla Mujeres is the safest municipality in Quintana Roo and has earned certifications for its beaches (White Flag at North Beach and Blue Flag at Playa Centro) as well as having the distinction of being a Pueblo Magico. The Mayor said he is committed to continuing to work to promote this island so that tourists visit and see its natural beauty, for the benefit of island families.

Reward offered to find those responsible for the death of the sea turtle in Isla Mujeres https://goo.gl/yx1Nez
August 12 The unfortunate act of human aggression against a sea turtle of the Green species a few days ago in Isla Mujeres has aroused a great deal of indignation on social networks, to the degree that money is being raised to offer as a reward to find those guilty of this heinous act. The announcement was made on a well known Facebook page. According to users, it continues to raise funds and as of yesterday, they had just over 1000 dollars. (Note: At noon today, there is $825 usd from five contributors. The GoFundMe account is here. It says the money will be donated to the Tortugranja if the culprit isn't found).
This incident on August 9 shocked the entire community and environmentalists, therefore on that same day, the "Tortugranja" reported that the measures will be implemented during this season of protection  which will include assistance by the Navy and the Municipal Police.
Article 420 of the Federal Penal Code imposes a penalty of 1 to 9 years imprisonment to anyone who captures, damages or deprives the life of any sea turtle or sea mammal, or who collects or stores their products in any way.

One of the founding musicians of Trova Isleña passed away
Falleció integrante de la Trova Isleña .. [+] Ver masFull article at this link

One of the founders of the famous band  Trova Isleña, Emiliano Martínez Pérez, died of natural causes in his native Isla Mujeres at the age of 94, surrounded by his family on Juarez Avenue and was buried Saturday. The musical group toured inside and outside of Mexico, singing songs of Isla Mujeres, as well as internationally in Cuba and the United States.  Isla historian Fidel Villanueva Madrid wrote that he was considered on of the primer musicians of Quintana Roo and was the premier voice and guitar of the old Trova groups, he was the Golden Key and the Trova Isleña for decades. He was born November 8, 1922, and acted as a cultural ambassador of Isla Mujeres at various national and international festivals. He was well liked by his neighbors for his humble and slightly introverted nature. He has always been respected and recognized for his contributions and love for his island, and future generations know the island, its people, and culture because of him.
Most of his family joined him in his music and singing. He was part of the group of musicians that included "Chino" Fernandez, who contributed so much with music and lyrics to create original, native songs.
He was part of current musicians like Rafael Burgos Ríos, the Trinchan family, and others, with the  current members of theTrova Isleña musical group who almost always participated, with Emiliano, in the festivities for the anniversary of the Foundation of Isla Mujeres that is celebrated in the middle of August of each year. They also performed at the Caribbean cultural festivals that began many years ago.
The wake was held at the Martinez family home on Juarez avenue and he was given a Christian burial in the cemetery. May he Rest In Peace.
It is also noted that on July 18, Francisco Schmied Magaña passed away, who was the second Mayor of Isla Mujeres, during the period 1978-1981. His discreet wake was held with his family in attendance.
