Isla Mujeres has carried out preventative work to be safe and secure in the event of any natural phenomenons
With the arrival of the rainy season to the Yucatan Peninsula and the Mexican Caribbean, the City of Isla Mujeres, headed by the municipal president, Juan Carrillo Soberanis, began preventative work to ensure the safety of island families and their property in the event of a natural phenomenon.
This year, the rainy season began a couple of weeks early. Usually it is from June to November, but it began in May. Therefore, municipal authorities began ongoing preventative work, such as cleaning catchment basins, picking up trash and junk, pruning trees, and the recent rehabilitation of the drainage grates in the streets and avenues of the island.
The Mayor said, "For this administration, the safety of the islanders and their property is a priority, so we are carrying out various preventive actions with the support of the Civil Protection and Fire Departments, Public Services and other agencies."
The mayor urged the island population to join the work of the municipal agencies by cleaning the front of their houses, removing objects that could become projectiles by strong winds,and by not throwing garbage in streets and avenues.
"I assure all citizens that these preventive works will guarantee their safety and that of their assets in the event of a natural phenomenon. Their protection is most important to this municipal government and therefore we are working in advance. I invite you to stay informed and in communication with the municipal authorities, "concluded Juan Carrillo Soberanis.
INAUGURATION OF ART EXHIBITION "THE DREAM OF ÁSPID"
The works are part of an exhibition to be presented at the Caribbean Culture Festival in Santiago de Cuba. The professor of Fine Arts of the Casa de la Cultura Culture and at the Jean Piaget school, Dhante Loyola, inaugurated the exhibition of the works that will be part of an art show from Mexico to be presented at the Caribbean Cultural Festival in Santiago de Cuba. This exhibition will be open to the public from June 21 to 30 in the exhibition hall of the Casa de la Cultura.
. The professor explained that the purpose of this exhibition is to gather funds to present 27 works - drawings, paintings and prints - among which are the works of his students and other Mexican artists, in addition to his paintings, at the Cultural Festival, which will be held the first week of July.
Loyola also said that the series presented during this exhibition at the Casa de la Cultura is about the relationship between femininity and divinity, a very old human conception that has a strong cultural parallelism.
"We hope that with this exhibition that we will be able to raise the necessary funds to take the works to Cuba, because Isla Mujeres is the main delegation from Mexico, who have been given an opportunity to participate in this international artistic, academic and community event," said Loyola.
Promoting Isla Mujeres: A safe, clean destination
The municipal government continues with promotional work for the summer holiday season.
"Tourism is the most important industry for the economy of island families, which is why this administration continue to focus its efforts on promoting the island as one of Mexico's cleanest and safest destinations, "said Juan Carrillo Soberanis, the mayor of Isla Mujeres.
For the island's mayor, it is important to work on boosting tourism to improve the economy of the islanders. For this reason, he emphasized that he maintains constant and coordinated work with the three levels of government and private industry in order to maintain this industry as the driving force for development and progress in the municipality.
Since the beginning of his administration, therefore, he has carried out actions that position Isla Mujeres as one of the most important beach destinations in the country and abroad, among which is the promotion of sustainable tourism, which allows the development of activities with low impact on the environment, while generating income and employment for the local population.
Also, ZOFEMAT personnel (Federal Maritime Zone) clean and take care of the beach daily, from an early hour, taking the actions necessary to comply with the requirements of the Blue Flag and White Flag certifications and maintain these designations.
In addition, the mayor put into operation two adapted chairs so that people with disabilities who come to Playa Centro can enjoy this beach with the help of their companions, an action that takes important steps toward making the island an inclusive tourist destination.
"From the beginning of this administration we committed ourselves to taking care of the image of our island and to working so that the tourists take away the best impression of this destination. The different municipal departments responsible for the cleanliness and security of tourist areas and beaches are prepared for this summer vacation," said the Mayor.
The City of Isla Mujeres reaffirms its commitment to supporting the economy of the island families and will continue working to maintain the positioning of the destination, with the cleanliness and security that guarantee the arrival of more tourists, both domestic and foreign.

Mayor Juan Carrillo Soberanis is committed to carrying out actions and managing resources in a coordinated manner with authorities of the three levels of government and private industry. Isla Mujeres stands out among the destinations of Mexico for its leadership as a Pueblo Magico.
The municipality - and its tourist attractions - have several distinctions and recognition's, one of the most important is the Pueblo Magico, a program developed by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with various government agencies and state and municipal governments. In 2016, at the Third National Fair for Pueblos Magicos, Isla Mujeres was given an award for Developing the First 'Chain of Production'. (That is a planning & strategy document).
The appointment of Isla Mujeres as a Pueblo Magico has been reflected in a significant increase in the flow of tourists, both national and international, and the growth of tourism infrastructure, generating excellent economic benefits for island families.
The municipal government reaffirms its commitment to work to fulfill its part in preserving this recognition by doing work such as documentation of innovation and strengthening of tourism products such as excursions, guided tours & packages,. tourism development, maintenance of commercial relations with tourism service intermediaries, a statistical information system, and a detailed report of activities, among many others.
Mayor Juan Carrillo Soberanis said, "All the recognition's are of paramount importance for tourist development and the economic growth in the municipality, for that reason my administration is working to maintain these designations. Isla Mujeres has the Blue Flag, White Flag and is one of the 111 Pueblos Magicos of Mexico, which are important recognition's for those who visit us and who cause us to continue to be one of the most visited destinations in the country."

The State Department of Civil Protection of Quintana Roo is informing the citizenry that in the course of this afternoon, the low pressure system evolved into Tropical Depression #3 in the Golf of Mexico which is heading toward the southern USA. Also, the Tropical Depression #2 in the Atlantic Ocean has intensified into Tropical Storm "Bret", and these do not represent a risk for the state of Quintana. Note...Tropical Storm Bret fizzled out in the Caribbean Sea on Tuesday afternoon after heading into a storm-killing wind shear. The low pressure system that passed over us developed into Tropical Storm Cindy as it headed at the US. Another tropical wave & stormy weather hit the Yucatan yesterday (Wednesday). It is sunny today (Thursday).

The Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT), through the Harbor Master, has authorized the placing of a buoy line by the fishing cooperative "Isla Blanca" in the water by their Federal Zone concession. The assignment of these rights will expire in 15 years in 20130. In reality there is already a buoy line in place. This is the final part of a six year legal struggle that began in 2011 when the Ballesteros family had them temporarily evicted from the property, with the help of governmental officials.

This is due to difficulties docking at the Punta Sam pier where there were more effects by the weather, compared to the island.
The departures by the Ultramar passenger ferries continued without any problems, according to their usual schedule. There was only one case of a boat suffering submersion from accumulation of water, which was the fishing boat "Xiomara Alejandra" which was half-submerged at the end of the dock of the cooperative "Social Justicia". Becoming wet with sea water damages the engines and will require a tech to clean it.

June 21 Pumping rainwater out of the two Salina lakes to prevent overflowing at the nearby houses began yesterday (Tuesday) morning. At Salina Grande, the main collector of water in the colonias, it will take about five more days to fall to its normal level, because more rain is in the forecast. The pump that expels surplus water has a capacity of 120 liters per second, which is just over 7 cubic meters per hour and almost 200 cubic meters per 24 hours. The two pumps have been active since early Tuesday. In recent days the strongest rains occurred in the predawn hours. There is ongoing work to keep the drainage systems of the public roads functioning, to try to prevent flooding.
