MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT GUARANTEES QUALITY SERVICES DURING EASTER HOLIDAYS
In order to maintain the security and good image of this holiday pole during Semana Santa, the municipal government headed by municipal President Juan Carrillo Soberanis guarantees attention to visitors and local residents through coordinated efforts between the three levels of government with ongoing surveillance operations in the most crowded places and an efficient service of garbage collection and attention to the tourist zone.
The Mayor said that this town is ready to receive the thousands of tourists expected over the next holiday, with the implementation of a Special Easter Operation that will start on April 10 with various interventions by agencies  such as the Public Security and Municipal Transit Authority, Civil Protection, the Navy, the Red Cross and the State Health Department, in charge of protecting beaches, roads and sites of interest in order to guarantee a 'saldo blanco' (no incidents).
Thanks to the promotion that has been made of the destination we expect to be full during the holidays of Easter with an increase of more than 10 percent in hotel occupancy and tourism activities in general, so we are preparing for our visitors to  have a pleasant stay and so that the islanders can enjoy the holiday with their families, "added Carrillo Soberanis, who called on residents of the municipality to do their part by not driving over the speed limits or under the influence of alcohol, to prevent accidents.
In the same vein, he thanked and recognized the work of all the agencies of the three levels of government and organizations involved in this Semana Santa holiday in the care and protection of citizens, as well as ensuring that services are operating efficiently, at one hundred percent.
With regard to keeping Isla Mujeres clean, Juan Carrillo Soberanis has instructed the Director of Public Service to expand the hours of trash collection during the vacation period, and they will have a crew of sweepers cleaning the streets.  The Mayor concluded by saying, "We will ensure that our visitors get a good image of our destination, with a safe and well-kept Isla Mujeres."

"Where there are no breeding grounds for mosquitoes, there are no mosquitoes, and where there are no mosquitoes, there is no zika, dengue, or chikungunya. The City invites you to participate in the start of the Municipal campaign for an island free of dengue, chikungunya and zika. Monday April 3 9am to 2pm. La Gloria Park. We will be visiting your house to verify there are no containers of standing water without covers."

Concerns about exposure of underwater electrical cable
Peligro latente por cables submarinos[+] Ver masFull article at this link

Some concession holders on North Beach are concerned about the submarine electrical cables which come from Punta Sam and connect with the underground network, because the cables are not buried and are in an area where there are many tourists. The managers and employees of Chichis, of Nautibeach condominiums, and nearby hotels are proposing that the cables be buried to avoid problems. Previously the lines were more than a meter under the sand, but that area has been affected by beach erosion.

Declining interest in the "Del Sol al Sol" regatta
Decae el interés por la regata “Del Sol al Sol” .. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
The 49th edition of the regatta "Del Sol al Sol" are scheduled to depart St Petersburg, Florida on April 28, with 12 sailboats registered to participate, which is fewer than last year when there were 14 yachts. They are expected to arrive on the island on May 1st and 2nd, when they are free to visit the island attractions, and nearby archeological sites of Tulum and Chichen Itza.
On May 3rd, the traditional Captains Party (Copa de capitanes) will be hosted by the Isla Mujeres Yacht Club at the Casa de las Rocas at1pm. At 7pm that day, members of the yacht crews will compete against islanders in the annual basketball game on the court by the Town Square. On Thursday, May 4, the participants will be officially honored as Distinguished Guests of the City at 7p at Punta Sur or at the Town Hall, depending on the weather.
On Friday, May 5 the participants in the Regata Amigos, 48th edition, will gather at Buho's restaurant at 10am and depart a half hour later for the boats, with the most outstanding students of the island between the ages of 8 and 12 participating. They will begin their sail around the island at noon.
At 7pm on Friday, there will be a farewell cocktail party and presentation of trophies and awards for both regattas at the Cabanas Maria del Mar, and they will say goodbye on Saturday to the commodores, captains, crews, and guests. Enrique Lima Zuno provided this schedule and presented the winning drawing for the event by young Jonathan Miguel López Aguirre.   LINK to the Regatta website.
The decreased number of participants is attributed to the fact that several yacht clubs from the southern United States recently participated in a competition to Cuba.

Low water levels at Salina Grande lake
Baja el nivel de la Salina Grande d.. [+] Ver masFull article at this link

The water in Salina Grande lake is turning yellowish and is at lower levels, which occurs annually in this dry season. If rain does not occur in the upcoming weeks, massive numbers of fish are expected to die, as has occurred in recent years, due to lack of oxygen. There has been a proposal to install 'oxygenation pumps' by Juan Mex, Pascual Sánchez and Eleazar Enríquez.
During the rainy season, the Salina Grande used to overflow, so CONAGUA (the National Water Commission) financed the installation of pumps which move hundreds of thousands of cubic meters to the sea, which is also done for the Salina Chica lake.
A half century ago, there was only one body of water, which produced salt, but with urban growth, parts were filled in and it was divided into the three lakes that exist today.

Strong winds from the south-southeast caused boats under 40 feet to be restricted to port on Friday. The arrival of two cold fronts affecting the northern part of Mexico are not expected to affect this region. Hundreds of tourists continued to arrive by ferry and on boats from the Cancun Hotel Zone. The police reported were no incidents and it was a "Saldo Blanco" Golf cart rental agencies reported nearly all of the carts were in use. The restriction could be removed on Saturday if the winds decrease.
