Making this a habit will create a better future for the islanders, especially the children." He said this is a task that is the responsibility in which everyone must participate, because small actions such as separation of trash and not littering can generate big change, which can make Isla Mujeres an example of good waste management.
The Mayor said he is committed to continuing to work on this issue, so that we have a clean destination, which not only benefits its public image, but also protects the environment and gives the community an opportunity to have a better future.

Personnel with the Navy of Mexico, based at the station in Puerto Juarez, received a request to assist a fisherman who was suffering from symptoms of decompression. Naval personnel were conducting 'urban' tours on Isla Blanca when they were approached by a person seeking help to transport a fisherman who was at the Isla Blanca fishing camp in a pickup truck and in urgent need of medical attention at the hyperbaric chamber in Isla Mujeres. The Navy immediately mobilized personnel to assist, sending the interceptor type Patrol Boat, Buque ARM Oaxaca PO-163, to transport the man to Isla Mujeres for the required medical attention. These actions took place as part of the Navy's responsibility to safeguard human lives at sea and is an example of their commitment to ensure the safety of the coastal population of Mexico.

The company "Desarrollos Hidraulicos of Cancun", better known as Aguakan, has announced that it will donate more than 100 clinical studies for the detection of this silent disease that claims lives every year. In a press release, the company announced that it will give these studies away to women in the municipalities of Isla Mujeres, Benito Juarez, Puerto Morelos, and Solidaridad. It says that since 2011, the Aguakan company has provided preventative messages about breast cancer to its clients on pink bags and tee shirts.

According to the Mexican Ministry of Health, breast cancer has ranked as the leading cause of deaths from cancer in women since 2006, and there were 11,372 cases recorded in 2014. Specialist Fernando Mainero Ratchelous, of the Oncology Hospital of the National 21st Century Centro Médic Instituto Mexicano of Seguro Social (IMSS), said early treatment not only results in longer life expectancy, it also lowers costs, since treating Stage 1 breast cancer costs five times less than treatment of Stage 4.
In Mexico, there are large differences in the distribution of mammograms conducted by public health institutions. The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) reports that out of every 100 mammograms, 30 are in Mexico City, 7 are in Baja California, 6 are in Jalisco, while there are six states where the percentage is less than one, with Quintana Roo being the most extreme case at 0.5 percent.
Therefore, with the slogan for the National Campaign is #DateUnaMano (Give a hand), the Ministry of Health has launched a campaign for the month of fighting cancer. Aguakan emphasizes its commitment to helping the people of Quintana Roo with methods of addressing this disease with two approaches: prevention and treatment, involving health professionals such as doctors and nurses, as will as a multidisciplinary team to address all aspects, both physical and social.

A formal request has been sent by the Isla Mujeres Small Hotels Fascinantes Association to the state government of Quintana Roo seeking the reinstatement of the Tourism Promotion Trust (fideocomiso) agency in Isla Mujeres. These agencies were formed in 1996 by the state government in the municipalities of Benito Juárez, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Solidaridad and Othon P. Blanco. They were discontinued for the two islands, which caused some discontent. (Responsibility for tourism promotion for Isla Mujeres was moved to the Cancun Convention and Visitors agency. These hoteliers want it returned to the island.)

There are three tropical waves being monitored, with the first in the Lesser Antilles moving west at 28 km/hr, the second is in the Central Atlantic, and the third is in the Eastern Atlantic. Meanwhile, cold front #3 is about to enter the Gulf of Mexico.

Spokesman Miguel Povedano, who is a founder of the Festival of Caribbean Culture in Isla Mujeres, said they have brought two teachers to assist, María Cabrales and Dania Domecg, from the Conservatory of Santiago de Cuba.
Classes, which are free, will be held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4p to 5p at the Casa del Caribe, which is located in the Mundaca apartments. He said they could not have the classes in the schools because they lack support from the SEP (State Educational Department) supervisor in Isla Mujeres, Guadalupe Briceno.

The 9th annual Diabetes Clinic will be November 3rd in La Gloria. We are a team of nurses, social workers, EMT's and paramedics with a doctor for consultation of patients who need to be seen immediately. Please consider donating $50 which would buy 200 test strips, enough for one patient for a year. We also need donations of reading glasses, particularly the higher numbers.
