Isla Mujueres was foggy at dawn on Monday, which is a rare phenomenon in summer and more common in fall and winter, according to fishermen and others who are active early in the day. The haze was nearly 50 meters high and it dissipated shortly after 6am when dawn came, but there were images on the internet. (See TVIM section above). There were no accidents reported in the Bay, nor on the streets, where there is little traffic at that hour, because the workers and students had not left their homes yet.
It had cleared by 8am when the fleet of tour boats departed for the whale shark area. The sun shone on Monday morning, after a night of rain. It clouded over in the afternoon with a threat of rain, but there were only a few sprinkles ("chipichipi") and some dark clouds.
Meanwhile, tropical wave 28 will continue its effects this (Monday) evening, without affecting tourism on Tuesday, according to the forecast of the SCT. This system was still at the coast of Quintana Roo Monday afternoon interacting with moist air from the Caribbean sea which was expected to result in partly cloudy skies with potential for light to moderate rain, some thunderstorms, reduced visibility, possible squalls and warm to hot temperatures.

The heavy rains that fell in the predawn hours of the morning on Monday caused flooding in the low areas of the colonias and downtown, but by noon there was no trace of the problem. The sports fields were flooded at dawn, but the levels had gone down by 11am. This did not affect any of the teams, because they had played their games on Sunday.
The heavy rain began before midnight, interrupting satellite TV signals for a few minutes. The rain lasted until dawn, and there was a thick haze over the island at daybreak. The rain did not cause any problems with the levels of the three salina lakes, and Civil Protection did not need to activate the pumps.
Families living in areas crossed by drainage channels also reported no problems, but said their yards sometimes flood during rainy season, which also occurs to those living in the low areas by Salina Grande lake. Residents in that area who are affected, such as Eulogio Perez and Carlos Cabrera, say they want the salina lakes reconnected to the sea.

It has been one year since the dismissal of the director of the high school Colegio Bachilleres, Javier Solis Martinez, and questions remain about allegations of diversion of contributions from parents and from educational grants. He served as director from 2012 to 2015.
The former treasurer of the previous Board, Patricia Yam Bacelis, said the issue has not been completed and that next board should follow up on the issue. Marcos Velazquez, a parent, said, "We are awaiting the return of (allegedly) misappropriated resources. We will seek help from the new Governor, when the state government changes."

Fine dining a few steps away at Da Luisa or try the traditional neighborhood eateries a couple blocks farther. Stroll five minutes southward down the coastal sidewalk to Mango Cafe, Bahama Mama, Brisas, or Manolitos. Walk less than 10 minutes southwest to shop at Chedraui or to dine at Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, or other options. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Our guests recommend the Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants.

Sat., Sept. 10-Boat procession to Isla Contoy departs at ~8am, This 17th annual procession will include hundreds of Catholics who will travel 30km, transporting the wooden icon to the chapel at the fishermen's camp. A Mass will be held, and the people will return to Isla Mujeres afterwards, probably shortly after noon. The Virgin de la Caridad del Cobre is the patron saint of seamen and this icon from Cuba will remain in Isla Contoy throughout the lobster season, returning to Isla Mujeres in early March.

The 9th annual Diabetes Clinic will be November 3rd in La Gloria. We are a team of nurses, social workers, EMT's and paramedics with a doctor for consultation of patients who need to be seen immediately.
