Tourism typically decreases with the end of the summer holiday season. The lanchero boat tours had a lack of people lining up, and the taxi drivers were complaining about the lack of passengers. However the whale shark tour operators report they remain busy, and have reservations for the remaining three weeks of the season.

Low income families have difficulty paying for the purchase of school supplies, uniforms, and backpacks for their children, which can represent a cost of up to 600 pesos per student.
The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (PROFECO) website estimates that the cost for the list of supplies for a grade school student varies between 215 pesos and 300 pesos. It is noted that on the island, costs are often ten percent more than on the mainland.
Uniforms cost 220 pesos for boys and 250 pesos for girls, with the campuses usually buying in volume. On the PROFECO site the girls uniform costs are 150 to 400 for girls and 160-450 for boys. These prices don't include shoes or backpacks.
For low income homes with more than one child in school, the situation becomes complicated, despite recycling notebooks, pencils, and clothing, and additionally having to pay school fees.
