Isla Mujeres, Pueblo Magico: Full of Colorful Urban Art
EL ARTE URBANO LLENA DE COLOR AL PUEBLO MÁGICO DE ISLA MUJERES
These attractive examples of Urban Art are being painted in cities around the world. Since the artists began in Isla Mujeres, the murals have attracted the attention of locals and tourists. Now they are finished, they are receiving many positive comments and admiration. This project with WAD is meant to show the world the charms of this Pueblo Magico in a special and unique way. There are several sites scattered around the island with these murals, including one whose focus is welcoming arriving visitors, which is located on the perimeter fence of the airport.

No tours within the Bay

The Harbor Master of Isla Mujeres, Ismael Gonzalez Gil, did not allow snorkeling tours to el Farito and Sac Bajo, due to security protocols in effect with the passage of the storm "Earl". He said the port should be reopened for recreational activities on Friday, and the whale shark tours should be able to resume on Saturday or Sunday, as well as tours to Isla Contoy, which are enjoyed by 200 tourists daily.
The rain came at 2pm to "bathe" the island for 20 minutes, and then the sun came out, and people enjoyed the temperatures under 25C degrees.
The SCT advisories are given, which report that there are two tropical waves, with one located east of the Lesser Antilles and the other extending into the Central Atlantic.
Beach half-empty during the day

The two main beaches of Isla Mujeres were half empty, but the Naval First Aid station was still on duty. After the rain passed thru at 2p, there were few people at the beach. The lifeguards were not not very busy since there were few swimmers, and there were no problems with people going outside the buoys. On Tuesday, there had been hundreds of people per every 200 square meters, but now there were only dozens enjoying the crystal clear, shallow water.
It is expected that things should return to normal on Friday, and then there should be more than 60 medium sized boats bringing recreational tourists to various attractions from the Cancun Hotel Zone, Puerto Juarez, and Punta Sam, as well as yachts from the marinas. Normally at this time of year, people from the whale shark tours also visit North Beach, but that activity is currently banned. It is assumed that whale shark tours will resume on Saturday.

The staff of the Port Authority (APIQRoo) said the number of tourists arriving at the terminal was slow for the second consecutive day, with about one third of the usual vacationers. Recreational tours in the Bay were not allowed, although the prevailing winds throughout the day were not dangerous, according to some boat captains, who were awaiting approval to visit the areas by el Farito and Sac Bajo.
Tourists who came to the island to tour around in golf carts had no difficulty, and were traveling around. There were fewer golf carts rented than usual, of the over 500 units available. At 2pm, the first rains of the day fell, but they were without consequence since the rain and lightning were over within 30 minutes. There was a "Saldo Blanco" at the end of the day, according to those in charge of security on the island. (No incidents).

Fine dining a few steps away at Da Luisa or try the traditional neighborhood eateries a couple blocks farther. Stroll five minutes southward down the coastal sidewalk to Mango Cafe, Bahama Mama, Brisas, or Manolitos. Walk less than 10 minutes southwest to shop at Chedraui or to dine at Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, or other options. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Our guests recommend the Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants.

One of the performers for Isla Fest is Astrid Hadad, who sports some amazing costumes in her performances. Her Wikipedia page says" ...no one since has stuffed all of Mexican political and cultural history into a dress and laced it up with a feminist attitude quite like Ms. Hadad. In a way, one could say that Hadad’s wild cabaret is a little like a Frida Kahlo painting come to life. Like Frida, she draws from the rich motherlode of images offered up by Mexican history and culture: Catholic saints, Aztec and Mayan iconography, revolutionary heroes, exuberant flowers and plants, campesino and indigenous folk art, the golden era of Mexican cinema and so on. Hadad has absorbed this inheritance of a uniquely Mexican and female surrealism and created her own surrealist cabaret that pulses with campy humor and irony."
