The telenovela revolves around the night three wives became widows when their spouses suffered an "apparent" accident, and they try to rebuild their lives in the midst of unique and surprising situations.    Safety and security measures are in place including surveillance and patrols by the Mexican Navy, Civil Protection, and the Tourist Police, as well as monitoring by the lifeguards that swimmers to stay within the buoys, with no incidents reported. The ferries and other boats are working at full capacity transferring tourists across the bay between the island and Punta Sam, Puerto Juarez, and the Cancun Hotel Zone, bringing people to enjoy the beaches, restaurants, shopping, and other attractions. Police checkpoints have been established on the island and the mainland areas of the municipality.

Small Hotel Association wants tourism promotion returned to Fideicomiso agency

The Small Hotel Association plans to meet with the Governor-elect to say they support the use of the word "Maya" in the promotion of Mexican Caribbean destinations, and they would prefer that the job of tourism promotion be returned to the municipal Fideicomisoa office. (Which was closed a couple years ago and the responsibilities given to the Cancun Bureau of Visitors and Conventions). The association wants the millions of pesos gained by the 3 percent lodging tax to be administrated by the Fideicomiso. They want to unite members of the island's small hotel sector to strengthen the business association, to rescue the identity and authenticity of Isla Mujeres, and to enable institutional websites for this vacation destination, among other goals.
At the  meeting they also want to address the issue of more than 150 summer homes who are competing in an irregular (illegal) manner with the hotel industry, without paying taxes or meeting the requirements for safety and quality. The president of the Asociación de Pequeños Hoteles Fascinantes de Isla Mujeres (Apphfim), Leonel Povedano Castillo, said, "We want to have them regularized and enter into a healthy competition within the industry." Many of the owners and managers of those properties are foreigners and it seems strange to the members of the hotel association that officials of the federal, state, and local treasuries allow their clandestine operations.
The vice president of the Small Hotel Association Fascinantes, Gerardo Magana, said it has been a slow process to bring together the small hotels into an association, and to show the owners and managers the advantages of working together. It has taken over a year, and now about 30 percent of the industry has joined the association. He said, "We have no alternative but to join together, or be pushed out by outsiders."
Among the plans that are nearly eighty percent complete is the creation and launch of a website: "www.islamujereshotels.net" which is already online promoting two hotels (Francis Arlene & Chac Chi). It should include about a half dozen hotels in August.

The Director of the Red Cross of Isla Mujeres, Fanny Morcillo Campos, gave assurances that the two ambulances will be providing service during the summer vacation season and the older unit just received maintenance. It is noted they recently gave support to the film crew from Televisa who were working on the island, and received financial support in return to help meet their needs.

Eastern malecon needs more lights
Una vergüenza el Malecón Oriente.. [+] Ver mas
There is good public lighting for about 300 meters of the Eastern Malecon walkway by the sea, where they system was renovated, however the other ~700 meters have been unlit for nearly two years, with only the bases remaining of the light poles.  Many houses along the malecon have improved their private lighting, in an effort to reduce risks of burglary or other crimes. Residents want more police patrols, as well as improved lighting, to prevent any potential problems along the southern part of the malecon.
It has also been published that maintenance needs to be done to the 'rock cages' at the base of the hurricane wall along the malecon, which were installed after Hurricane Wilma in October 2005.

Last evening, we enjoyed the final night of the Maya Riviera Film Festival in Isla Mujeres, watching a documentary by a musician from Veracruz exploring the roots of son jarocha music, and he answered questions afterwards. Beautiful sunset & skyline, nearly full moon, perfect weather...and a very interesting film! He said they'll be working on commercial markets next, like Neflix. Here's the trailer. https://vimeo.com/98789607
This is the fifth year for the RMFF and the second year it has come to Isla Mujeres, on the Posada beach. Hope they return for many more!
