According to the Harbor Master, of the approximately 500 boats in Isla Mujeres, a total of ten partially sank while moored, as a result of heavy rains and inattention by their owners, who are now working at bailing them out. He said is not yet possible to quantify the damage, but it is considered minor, since they only partially sank.

English teachers receive well deserved diplomas

The Volunquest program offers English classes by native speakers free of charge to grade school students, during the school year. This year some children in preschool-kindergarten also participated.
Those attending the event included: Kristen Twain, directora de Volunquest; Mildred Ávila Vera, sub secretaria de Educación y Cultura; Miriam Trejo León, regidora presidenta de la Comisión de Educación, Industria y Equidad de Género; María Tun Balam, directora de la escuela Andrés Quintana Roo; Rocío Rodríguez, directora de Educación y Fidel Villanueva Madrid, síndico municipal.
The City of Isla Mujeres, via the Municipal Women's Institute, invites the island community to participate in a Motorcycle Repair Course (Free).

June 6 Juan Carrillo Soberanis won the mayoral election by 394 votes and held a press conference at the office of his party, PRI, where he called for unity, without favoritism. He pledged to work for the needs of the community regarding health and public services, including maintaining a good image, lighting, and security. He said the issues which will receive priority include availability of health services 24 hours a day, lighting, cleanliness, and safety.
After completion of the formal procedures of being named mayor-elect, a transition committee will be formed to start the process of the handing over of the government in the following weeks, in accordance with administrative procedures.
There is a video circulating on the internet of the PAN candidate, Alicia Ricalde Magana, announcing that she will ask the electoral court to reverse the decision due to an advantage of less than one percentage point, and will ask that the null votes be counted one by one. She made allegations of electoral tourism, of buying of votes and voters credentials, and of threats and intimidation, which will be reported to the electoral authorities.
The Municipal Electoral Council counted a total of 10,548 votes of which 4930 were for PRI-PVEM-Panal, while 4594 were for PAN-PRD, and 584 were for Moreno, and the rest were for other parties.
Lowering Salina Grande lake level

June 6 Civil Protection activated the pump to lower levels of Salina Grande lake, although there was no risk of overflow. This has significantly reduced the water level.
Plastic trash was seen along the edge of the lake, and tires. Public service personnel continue to ask people not to litter and they continue to try to raise awareness about not dumping trash. Another problem that has not been resolved is garbage bags and trash being strewn around by dogs and cats who are loose in the street, when bags of trash are left outside for too long or are stored improperly.
Restrictions continue for small boats

June 6 The Harbor Master did not lift the restrictions on small boats, in order to avoid any potential accidents from the remnants of Tropical Storm "Colin". On Sunday, trips were cancelled to Isla Contoy National Park, as were diving and sports fishing trips, as a result of this decision by the Port Authority. Normal activities may resume on Tuesday.

Stroll five minutes southward down the coastal sidewalk to Mango Cafe, Bahama Mama, Brisas, or Manolitos. Walk less than 10 minutes southwest to shop at Chedraui or to dine at Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, or other options. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Our guests recommend the Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants.
