Tourists visiting for the day continue to arrive
Incesante flujo de turistas de pasadía [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Although hotel occupancy is around 50 percent, many tourists continue to arrive to visit for the day,  brought by a 'fleet' of more than 50 medium sized boats, as well as the ferries. The day-visitors arrive before noon and return to Cancun by 5pm, visiting the beaches and touring the island from one end to the other in golf carts.
While some Islanders complain that overnight tourism generates more money, others are pleased with the day-tripping visitors. They say there is need to continue work on renovating the appearance of the downtown Historical Center, to complete moving the lines on main street Medina out of sight, and then continue on the other streets, renewing all the curbs and sidewalks, among the other projects under consideration by the Pueblo Magico Committee.
Elvira Munoz Toleda, who owns a small business, said, "Once Isla Mujeres completely renovates its appearance and imposes regulations in order to guarantee  recorrer sin rebatinga cada espacio de vialidad, (movement without the roadways being cluttered?), then people who now visit us for just a few hours would change their hotels and stay with us afterwards."
The quality of the beaches and water attracts many visitors, and many middle class Mexican families, who vacation here in the summers, may find that staying on the island in the small hotels would save them money.
The Pueblo Magico Committee has announced they intend to use the more than 20 million pesos provided to renovate the Convention Center, improve more than a half dozen wooden houses downtown, and renovate signs indicating the island's attractions, as well as some other minor issues.

Good expectations for summer
Buenas expectativas para el verano. [+] Ver masPhoto & full article at this link
It is three weeks from the start of the summer holiday season, and hotels who use the internet are reporting a good number of reservations, while there are many smaller establishments who are not connected. A 'conservative' estimation is that occupancy will reach 80 percent. "Therefore, there will be room for those seeking lodging, " said Roman Enriquez, an executive at a downtown hotel.
Other businesses also have reservations for their services including diving, whale shark tours, and sports fishing, as well as tours to Isla Contoy and ecotourism in the mangroves of the mainland part of the municipality.
Security and safety for the summer visitors are ensured with coordination between agencies including the lifeguards, Tourist and Traffic police, Public Safety, Harbor Master, Red Cross, and private guards of the businesses along the beach, as well as the Navy, with their patrols and stations.
The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) has scheduled summer vacation to begin July 16 and to end on August 21, for those in basic education. Those in higher education may end a few days differently in some cases.

Island lacks bus service
La isla, sin transporte urbano [+] Ver mas Photos & full article at this link
After 15 years of failed service, the public transportation concession for Isla Turicun expired on May 16, and there has been no news about requesting new bidders for the contract. Meanwhile there are hundreds of workers and families who are awaiting resumption of bus service.
There are less than 100 days left for the current City administration, who are criticized regarding this issue by alderman Victor Osorio. He and this two companions, who are members of the opposition (political party). They are angry about issues relating to a Special session of the Council, and complained about unresolved issues such as urban transport, cleaning, security, maintenance of parks, and sports areas, which they say are not being addressed.
