Suspect arrested for palapa fire on North Beach last year
Arrestan a presunto incendiarioVer mas Photos & Full article at this link
On the night of March 13, 2015, two palapas were burned by a group of about twenty people, following a dispute over an area of beach between Carlos Cervera and former mayor Jorge Cardenas Bazan. The event was witnessed by dozens of surprised tourists who were staying at two nearby properties, and police did not intervene. Now, arrest warrants have been issued and the first suspect, Vicente Celis (aka "Longplay"), is in custody, who denies participating in the incident. He says he already has a lawyer and that this is "purely political".
Carlos Cervera Peraza was contacted by phone, who confirmed that this arrest is related to the complaint he filed for theft and damages, saying that the destruction totaled to about 650,000 pesos in losses. Evidence in the case includes videos and photos of those involved. He said the destruction included two palapas, refrigerators, freezers, loungers, umbrellas, and other items. He said the dispute over the federal zone continues, and gave no other details.
After the damage, Sr. Cervera showed documents concerning the disputed property of 2600 square meters, saying there are pen strokes of the former mayor over his. He showed a document issued by SEMARNAT granting title to the Federal Zone concession DGZF-448102 since 2002, which he said remains in force. He also presented receipts to the municipal treasury, to demonstrate that he is current on the payments, and said he was working with his lawyer to file a federal lawsuit against those responsible for the damages.
A few weeks ago, former mayor Jorge Cardenas was detained at the airport in Cancun, and appeared the following day behind closed doors at a local court room, and then was set free. Apparently the arrest was related to an internal problem among the partners of the company operating at the beach site, but there was secrecy concerning the matter.

Rally del Agua con 15 equipos [+] Ver mas Photo & Full article at this link
The 8th Water Rally will be held May 27, with 75 young people participating, in 15 teams, to help raise awareness about water conservation. Innovations in this edition include having the participants carry two buckets of water. This event is organized by Aguakan, and participants are from areas served by the company, including Isla Mujeres, Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Playa del Carmen.
For the first time, the Rally will take place in Playa del Carmen. Participating young people compete in  tests of physical skill and knowledge, after studying information about the water services and history of the city. The young people have the opportunity to learn about the infrastructure which brings water to their homes, collects it after use, and treats it to be returned to nature, without risk of contamination.
