At the 52nd City Council session the discounts and forgiveness of penalties were approved
The details about these discounts was translated yesterday, and they will be effective from October 1 to November 30th. The City Council session was held at the Casa de Cultura, where they also agreed to hold a Special Session to publicly acknowledge the appointment of Isla Mujeres as a "Pueblo Magico" which will include delivery of the award from the Governor, Roberto Borge Angulo. The achievement of this designation was announced last Friday by the Minister of Tourism, Enrique Octavio de la Madrid Cordero, in the city of Puebla. Also during the session, it was agreed that special events can alternate between the Convention Center and the Tourist Center at Punta Sur.
The City of Isla Mujeres supports the team Premier Sub 17 (Under 17) in their participation in the soccer league Premier Champions, northern zone.

The Mayor, Agapito Magana Sanchez said that they are awaiting the manual about the operation of the Pueblo Magico program, which will give access to an improved image, promotion, and funds, as will as transforming infrastructure and services.
When a tourism location is included in the Pueblo Magico federal
program, there are various benefits including state and federal funds,
in addition to public works done at no cost. He said that for this transformation and the success of this project, the participation of the private sector is necessary.
He said that in Quintana Roo, there are now three municipalities with this distinction, with Tulum and Bacalar receiving the benefits of this federal program. He did not mention specifics about the benefits to Isla Mujeres, but he said there will be an important change, because they are obligated to resuming the underground wiring project downtown, which has been not been completed on some of the streets.

The Mayor said the moving of the overhead lines underground has been completed along the main street of Rueda Medina and the pedestrian street of Hidalgo, but it has not been done on the Juarez and Guerrero, or the cross streets, and that this project will be reactivated. The Mayor confirmed that he will travel to Mexico City, as well as holding an official ceremony on the island as part of the process of receiving the designation as a Pueblo Magico.

Isla Mujeres: A Place of Traditions Participate! This is a poster for a Hanal Pixan altar competition Hanal Pixan is the Mayan holiday that occurs around the time of Dia de los Muertos and Halloween. It lasts about a week and a half and is a commemoration of departed relatives and friends, who are remembered with offerings of their favorite foods, drinks, and items at altars containing their photos, at homes, businesses, and other locations, and their graves are cleaned and decorated. There are specials foods and other traditions.
