Starting preparations for the inauguration of the hospital

Lanrry PARRAISLA MUJERES, 4 de octubre.-
During a tour of the hospital last Tuesday, officials said the inauguration of the hospital is planned for the middle of the month, with the date to be determined. They explained that the tour was conducted to learn what details may need addressing before the formal opening of the hospital. The Secretary of Health, John Ortegon, said the hospital is already operating at 100 percent, and the first birth has already occurred, as well as a surgical intervention to treat an abscess.

0 05 de octubre de 2015 By Carlos GascaEach year there is an event on Fishermen's Day, by the Monument to the Fishermen on Rueda Medina Avenue, which is officiated by the Mayor and attended by the seamen, as well as the widows of fishermen whose lives were lost at sea, who are commemorated.Dia del Pescador is October 9th, and preparations are being made for the event, which will include placing a wreath at sea. This event has taken place annually at the Monument to the Fishermen, in honor of workers who died at sea, since the administration of Fidel Villanueva Madrid.

Lighthouses could be a tourist attraction

The lighthouses represent a potential tourist attraction, with an opportunity to view panoramas such as Punta Sur, and these majestic structures are commonly featured in visitor's photos. The lighthouse on Rueda Medina went out of operation five years ago when a taller hotel was built southeast of cemetery, and the beacon was relocated atop the Mia hotel on the islet El Yunque.
The tallest of the lighthouses is located on Isla Contoy, and is 32 meters, followed by the one downtown which is 20 meters, and the smallest is el Farito, which signals the entrance to the isle where boats come to dock.
The newest lighthouse in the municipality, since its reconstruction, is at Cabo Catoche. It replaced the earlier structure after eighty years, which succumbed to the effects of weather in 2013. The new lighthouse went into operation in March 2015, and 5 billion pesos were invested in it. This lighthouse is very important for fishermen, tourism service providers, and the residents of Holbox, Chiquilá, Puerto Juarez, and Isla Mujeres.
Geographically, Cabo Catoche determines the division between the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean sea, and it marks the southwestern edge of the Yucatan Channel. The lighthouse also serves the deep water vessels such as cruise ships and the merchant cargo ships during their journey through the Yucatan channel.
For those who are able to see the view from the tallest lighthouse, which is on Isla Contoy, it is quite a panorama of the vast geographical area from Catoche to Chacmuchuch, Isla Blanca, and Isla Mujeres. The light from this beacon can be seen on the island, and it has existed for nearly a century. Those who have the opportunity to enter the lighthouse get an idea of the view of the surroundings from a good height, when they only go to the viewpoint of the main tower, whose height is a little over ten meters.

This weekend Rolandi's Pizza restaurant, in coordination with the CROC union, gave economic scholarships and school supplies to children of their employees. There are a few companies in the tourism industry who assist the children of their employees to continue their educations, but the majority of the businesses do not offer this benefit.

Fine dining a few steps away at Da Luisa or try the traditional neighborhood eateries a couple blocks farther. Stroll five minutes down the coastal sidewalk to Mango Cafe, Bahama Mama, Brisas, or Manolitos. Walk less than 10 minutes to shop at Chedraui or to dine at Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, or Seso Loco. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Our guests recommend the Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants.

Isla Mujeres: A Place of Traditions Participate! This is a poster for a Hanal Pixan altar competition Hanal Pixan is the Mayan holiday that occurs around the time of Dia de los Muertos and Halloween. It lasts about a week and a half and is a commemoration of departed relatives and friends, who are remembered with offerings of their favorite foods, drinks, and items at altars containing their photos, at homes, businesses, and other locations, and their graves are cleaned and decorated. There are specials foods and other traditions.
