Dispute over unauthorized use of Federal Zone

There is a dispute over use of the federal zone by a bar which is located inside a freezer. Leonel Povedano Moguel explained that his brother Miguel Povedano Moguel rented a property to a foreign company which has the bar, but the leased property doesn't include use of the Federal Zone, which is in his name, and he had been paying for it in a timely manner with the appropriate authorities. He says the company is using the beach without authorization, adding that he has gone to the site at least five times with the intention of negotiating with the tenants for them to pay for use of the beach area, but has not gotten a positive result.
He said in the absence of any agreement, he opted to fence the Federal Zone with barbed wire to prevent use of the beach, but the tenants, with the support of their landlord, cut the wire and continued to use the beach, charging 50 pesos to tourists for access to it.
He said when he came to the area of the Federal Zone concession last Saturday to reinstall the fence to prevent use of the beach, the landlord was waiting with a group of at least ten people, so he left the area. On Wednesday, he returned to the Federal Zone, accompanied by his workers and a couple of police officers. He exchanged a few words with the landlord without coming to any agreements. He said now he does not want any compromise because these people, who are foreigners, want to pay the amount they choose for use of the beach.
He concluded that it is not his intention to create a confrontation, but to prevent them from invading the Federal Zone for which he pays punctually, and in fact, he already has had plans to start a business at this location, therefore he wants to avoid any sort of conflict.

A meeting was held yesterday to discuss proposals for ways to reduce the number of tourists visiting Isla Contoy, to reduce the impact on the environment and facilities of this Protected Natural Area. Some proposals have already been implemented such as reducing the number of passengers in each of the vessels that arrive there, depending on their size. They are planning a review of the permits that have been granted but are not in use, and to monitor these concessions to assure they are not being transferred or merged with other licensees.
Regarding access by private boats that want to visit Isla Contoy National Park, it was established that only one private boat will be accepted daily and that each of these boats may only have access once a month. Additionally, these private boats may not visit on Wednesdays or Fridays, they may not have more than eight passengers, and they must have a qualified driver who has taken the appropriate courses.
Their intention is to regulate the usage of the public areas which are suffering a great deal of deterioration, including the dining area and the walking paths. One of the measures would include the regulation of prices per tourist who visits, in addition to reducing the number who visit.

Municipal Health Director, Tarhin Sadat Casique said heat stress is a serious problem for residents and visitors, and staff have been trained at the information booths, as well as offering training to the employees of ZOFEMAT and Civil Protection to provide the appropriate recommendations and to detect any cases of heat stroke for transfer to the hospital.
He noted that posters have been placed with information in English and Spanish, and this information is being disseminated by the City in social media and official outlets.

Disagreement over property in Federal Zone

Leonel Povedano Moguel said the conflicts with his brother over this property in Sac Bajo, which was known as "Playa Mexico", began several years ago, and now involves litigation with the foreign company who rented from his brother. The property was divided in half between he and his brother, but the federal zone is under his name.
He said, "On various occasions, I have tried to rent the Federal Zone to the owners of the Ice Bar, so they can offer better services, but they have rejected this. The worst part is they are charging tourists for use of the Federal Zone, and they are paying nothing for this right, which I see as unfair."
He said he decided to solve this problem by defining the federal zone with barbed wire to prevent use of this beach, but the tenants, backed by his brother, have cut the wire several times. -

In addition to the information in the similar article translated above, this one notes that the agreements with the tour providers seek to reduce the number of tourists by 10 to 15 percent, and that the capacity remains at 200 per day. There are currently 36 boats with permits to bring passengers to Isla Contoy.
They are considering increasing the hours, which are 9am to 4pm, which could be extended to 5pm. They also discussed care and maintenance for the bathrooms and agreed to attend to that.

He said if the symptoms persist, the patient should immediately be taken to the medical center, and the problem should not be underestimated.
He recommended avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun or strenuous exercise, because they cause the body temperature to rise. He recommended wearing cool, light clothing in light colors, increasing fluid intake, avoiding consumption of alcohol as much as possible, and wearing a hat and sunglasses.

On Sunday evening, there will be a dance event on the Town Square featuring over 70 dancers, including students from 3 years of age, of the Renatta Dance Studio (RDS). The free event is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm and will include performances of La Máscara (The Mask), Rey León (Lion King), Flash Dance, Hombre Araña (Spiderman), High School Musical, and Frozzen, among others.
Renatta Andrea Rodriguez recently toured with her best students in Merida, performing on a professional level, and has prepared the new generation, bringing high praise from friends and strangers for the quality work they present onstage.
The general public is invited to attend and businesses are invited to encourage their customers to enjoy this festival which may feature more than two hours of dancing.
