Of the 100 municipal officers, 57 will be assigned to the island, with five motorcycles and four vehicles, of which three are trucks and one is a patrol car. There will be 36 officers assigned to the Continental Zone, with a patrol motorcycle (motopatrulla) and four trucks.
The Police Chief said, "The steps have already been adequately established to guarantee the safety of voters going to the polls on Sunday, June 7, in Isla Mujeres." He said the officers are responsible for monitoring that the electoral process is conducted without problems in a total off 11 polling locations, of which two are on the mainland and nine are on the island.
Island voting locations are the primary schools “Andrés Quintana Roo”, César Mendoza Santana” and “Julio Saury Espinosa”; in the General Hospital; at the middle school “Benito Juárez”; at the green dome in colonia Salina Chica; at the "la cancha la jaula" park colonia Salina Grande; at the kindergarten “Tláloc”, and at the facilities of the IEEA. The other two voting locations will be at the ferry terminal in Punta Sam and at the primary school “Enrique Estrella Oxté” on the mainland.

Tourism entrepreneurs invited by the city of Isla Mujeres through the Municipal Department of Tourism, had a meeting with a Spanish company specializing in tourism, "Introducing People".
"Introducing People" is an agency specializing in representation, marketing and communications in the industry of tourism, leisure and culture in countries and cities around the world.
Business people of Isla Mujeres listened to the presentation by the Spanish company on Wednesday at the City Council room, with the aim of encouraging an agreement between the Spanish company and the Island entrepreneurs, if it suits them, to generate more tourism promotion in Europe.
The presentation was conducted by Ernesto Presuel Polanco, director of the company, who said that by joining the project, it opens the possibilities of being included in the most important tourism fairs in Europe, including FITUR (International Tourism Fair of Madrid, Spain) and ITB, the International Tourism Fair of Berlin, Germany).
The municipal Tourism director, Gustavo Rodriguez, thanked the hoteliers for showing interest in more actively promoting Isla Mujeres on the five continents.He said in the future they will continue to offer these types of business opportunities to restauranteurs, whale shark licensees, and others with a stake in the tourism industry.
The City held a workshop "The Magic of Teamwork" as part of ongoing training to provide the necessary tools to always offer better service, in coordination with the National Institute of Senior Citizens, The Basic Rehabilitation Intitute, and the DIF (System of Family Development).

Guadalupe Espinoza, 39, from Cancun, nearly gave birth on the Ultramar ferry while it was en route, having left Gran Puerto at 8am, heading toward Isla Mujeres, when her waters broke. The boat docked and waited for the paramedics of the Red Cross. They attended to her inside the boat, before transferring her to the Health Center. Minutes later a baby boy was born weighing 3 kg (6.6 lbs). Mother and baby are in good health.A punto de nacer en plena travesía en el barco de ruta de la empresa Ultramar, mujer que había salido del gran puerto con destino a Isla Mujeres en el cruce de las 8 de la mañana, se le rompe “la fuente”, por lo que al atracar el barco, ya la esperaban los paramédicos de la Cruz Roja. La mujer responde al nombre de Guadalupe Espinoza de 39 años de edad, originaria de Cancún, misma que fue atendida en el interior del barco, para luego ser trasladada al centro de salud, y minutos más tarde nacio un niño que peso 3 kilogramos, madre y bebe se encuentran bien de salud.

With the summer season beginning soon, the ferry company of the Magana family is launching a program on Wednesday to offer a 40 percent discount for round trip passage to Isla Mujeres for 'los quintnarroenses' (people from the state of Quintana Roo), said the director of the company, Jorge Aragon.
He said they are also offering a discount to the construction workers who cross daily, whose discounted rate is 70 pesos round round trip, and it is 85 pesos for the quintanarroenses. Both promotions are valid until July 15th.
Discounts for residents of Isla Mujeres and the Continental Zone will continue indefinitely with a cost of 50 pesos per round trip, said the manager, who personally operates one of the ferries, dedicated to transferring tourists from the Hotel Zone.
The price that is authorized by the SCT (Ministry of Communications and Transport) for foreigners and quintanarroenses is 78 pesos each way or 146 for a round trip. But with the discount, there is the opportunity to attract travelers from all parts of Quintana Roo. The promotion begins with the first crossing that departs Isla Mujeres at 7:40am, departing hourly until 8:10pm when the boat returns to Puerto Juarez. The manager confirmed that there will be two boats available to guarantee service, so if there is any mechanical failure, one can replace the other, but if that occurs, they will bring in another of a larger size.

The Navy will hold a conference on Thursday about the mangroves, a habitat for many coastal species that provides natural protection against hurricanes. This is part of the activities for World Environment Day. The quota for the conference of young people and academics is around 100 people and it will be held in the City Council room at 10am. Those invited include the general public and representatives from the the local schools, because on this day there is a fair in the Town Square from 9am to noon. (Other reports have said the Environmental Fair is on Friday, June 5, Town Square, 9a-noon. World Environmental Day is Friday, June 5.).
The organizing committee confirmed that those participating in the fair include the middle school Benito Juarez, the primary schools Jean Piaget and Andres Quintana Roo, the Human Rights Commission, the General Hospital, Aguakan, the Port Authority (APRIQRoo), the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), the labor union CROC, the Clínica Veterinaria Isla Mujeres A.C, the ferry Marítima Isla Mujeres, Patrulla Verde A.C (Green Patrol), and various municipal agencies.
Reduced 20% in 30 years
The Environmental Fair will be inaugurated by Mayor Agapito Magana, along with environmentalists promoting the conservation of the environment. According to SEMARNAT (the Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources), Mexico is one of the main countries in the world with a large area of mangroves. Mangroves are protected by a legal framework, but the fact is that they continue to shrink dramatically due to logging and the construction of hotels and urban centers.
In 1981, Mexico had an area of 856,308 hectares of mangrove, but after 25 years this was reduced by ~20 percent, to 774,090 hectares. In 2010, the figure reported was 764,486 hectares. It has been reported in Por Esto that there has been a large amount of destruction of mangroves in the lagoons Makax (on the isle) and Chacmuchuch (in the Continental Zone), which has been witnessed by business people, residents, and social groups, who have no authority to stop this "ecocide".
Studies about the mangroves indicate they are considered as "nurseries" at these sites, for the protection of baby fish and other species like sea turtles, snapper, and grouper. Several NGO's agree there is a lack of political awareness at all social and educational levels in the Yucatan Peninsula, including Quintana Roo and Isla Mujeres, where many mangroves are located. It is noted that Federal agents from PROFEPA (Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection) should take action to stop attacks on the environment, and there is a need for a prevention campaign.

The Navy will have a booth showing their diving equipment as well as their rescue program to combat pollution at sea, and a conference that is open to the public entitled "Mangroves".
The CFE (Federal Electrical Commission) will have a exhibition of various ways to produce electricity, aimed at grade school children.
The Human Rights Commission will have a booth and the state Director will inaugurate the fair, with the Mayor.
The labor union CROC is supplying volunteers and had donated ornamental plants, to be used for reforestation.
The DIF is participating and will be giving away discs showing how to conserve water.
Aguakan will have a booth, who often work with NGO's.
The Maritime Terminal is organizing a Drawing Contest titled "A Child's View of Caring for Nature" ( “la mirada de los niños en cuidado de la naturaleza”), and the ferry company will be responsible for the prizes.
The Veterinary Clinic of Isla Mujeres (La Clínica Veterinaria de Isla Mujeres AC) will have animals available for adoption and materials available about pet care.
The Tortugranja (Turtle Farm) will have a booth about the work they do as programs for reproduction and care for sea turtles.
The Municipal Ecology department are actively participating and will have a booth featuring the actions of their agency in favor of ecology.
The NGO Green Patrol/Paturlla Verde will present photographs from 15 years of educational work on the island.
June 7, Sunday Election Day (for Federal legislators) Restriction of sale of alcohol to go and in some local bars. Alcohol has been sold in tourist bar-restaurants during past elections.
