Preparing to receive Blue Flag distinction on July 2

El próximo 2 de julio recibirá distintivo

Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 7 de junio.-
It is expected that on July 2nd the distinctive Blue Flag will be raised over the Posada del Mar Beach, after Isla Mujeres has fully complied with each of the 33 criteria required for certification of the beach.
The XI National Clean Beaches Meeting will be held in Cancun on June 25 and 26, chaired by Governor Roberto Borge Angulo, and Mayor and President of the Clean Beaches Committee of Cancun-Maya Riviera, Agapito Magana Sanchez.
The award will be presented on June 26, and the City has planned a ceremony on July 2 to raise the distinctive Blue Flag at the Posada del Mar beach.
The Director of ZOFEMAT, Carmen Náhuatl Lara, said that since the beginning of this municipal administration, the mayor has been keen to certify each of the island's beaches, a situation that was achieved last year with North Beach and now it is the turn of the Posada del Mar beach.
In November, the City celebrated the certification of quality of two beaches of Isla Mujeres after audits by the Mexican Institute of Standardization and Certification, in compliance with the Norma Oficial Mexicana NMXAA/120/SCFI/2006. The white flag was then hoisted over Playa Norte, and there was interest in going beyond this certification and to seek the Blue Flag Award.
The Blue Flag certification is awarded by the jury of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) which consists of representatives of the United Nations Program for the Environment; the World Tourism Organization; the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); and the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.

Peaceful Election Day with no incidents

Isleños cumplieron obligación cívica en plena tranquilidad

Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 7 de junio.-
The electoral process was completely calm in Isla Mujeres, for the election of federal legislators. A representative of the INE, National Electoral Institute, said there were no incidents, except the late installation of one or two voting boxes in colonia La Gloria, which generally began around 8am.
In the first hours after the polls opened, many voters cast their votes, then voting slowed and it paused around noon, and in the afternoon, a few more voters came, sporadically.
There was constant monitoring and patrols by the municipal police. The police chief, Joaquin Poot Acosta, confirmed there were no incidents recorded. The voting box for vacationing Mexicans was located in the ferry terminal at Punta Sam, in the Continental Zone of the municipality.

Minutes after the closure of the 29 voting boxes at 6pm, the electoral supervisor of Zone 25 of the INE, Emilio Larrion Sustiata, reported there were no incidents,  He was interviewed outside the middle school "Benito Juarez", where he emphasized that there had been no incidents, and that they were scheduled to depart with all of the votes of the island in a convoy of the Mexican Navy from the school to the Naval pier, and there a Naval boat was taking them to Puerto Juarez at ~9:30pm. Then his staff will count the votes immediately.
There were 29 boxes installed throughout the municipality with 19 on the island and 10 on the mainland. It was estimated that more that 40 percent of voters participated, but that data will be available after the votes are counted.

Catholics organize a fair to celebrate anniversary
Católicos organizan feria por aniversario [+] Ver mas
A fair took  place this weekend to mark the fourth anniversary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus parish, at the property, where there were healthy family activities. In the evenings, the street Paseo de los Peces was partially closed because the area in front of the Chapel was used for booths to sell food and other items. There was also a tame bull for the brave to ride. They will continue to have the mechanical rides and items for sale this week for the families to enjoy before and after Mass in the evenings.
In an interview with the priest, Raul Sanchez Alonso, after he presided over Mass at the parishes of Guadalupe, Immaculate Conception, and Sacred Heart of Jesus, he explained the he had not voted that afternoon because he lacks a voting credential. He encouraged the faithful to cooperate so there would be peace and harmony in the electoral process to elect the Chamber of Deputies.
Regarding the festival, he said it began on June 4th and would end on Friday, June 12th.
