The 12th edition of the International Fishing Tournament "Cosme Alberto Martinez Magana" will be held on May 22, 23, & 24th.
Their goal is to make this most traditional tournament a memorable success that is even better than previous editions.
Safety and security is a top priority, and to ensure this the following agencies will be involved: Tourism, Urban Development, Ecology, Federal Maritime Zone, Civil Protection, Public Relations, Special Events, Port Administration Integral de Quintana Roo, Harbor Master, Navy of Mexico, National Fisheries Commission, State Government, Mexican Red Cross, Ministry of Health,  and some private organizations.

Carlos Cervera Peraza confirmed his intention to file a complaint with the MPFC (Ministerio Público de Fuero Común) for damage, theft, and attempted robbery, at whatever grade is applicable, against the person or persons responsible for the damage that occurred to his palapas this weekend. He was advised he could not do that until Tuesday.
He also intends to ask SEMARNAT (Ministry of the Environment & Natural Resources) to invalidate the claim by former mayor Jorge Cardenas Bazan over the concession of 2600 square meters of beach that Sr Cervera says he has held since 2002, and that was occupied by his father for 50 years. He says his concession number is DGZF-448 102, issued by SEMARNAT.
Regarding the damage that occurred at nearly midnight Friday, allegedly a group of more than 20 vandals tried to dismantle two palapas. According to some witnesses, some of the invaders allegedly claimed the area was the property of Sr. Cardenas.
The attorney for Sr. Cervera showed  reporters the Federal Penal Code, Chapter V, Article 395 which provides for imprisonment from three months to five years in prison and a fine of 50 to 500 pesos for the following crime:  Under owns authority, and doing violence or stealth, or using threat or deception, to occupy someone elses premises or to use them, or of a right (in a manner) that does not belong to that person". The penalties are applicable, especially, when the right of possession of the property that is damaged is under dispute or is doubtful. When the damage is done by a group or groups, of more than five people, in addition to these penalties, the person in charge of the invasion faces one to six years in prison, according to this statute.
