Immigration takes two foreign tourists into custody in an operation in Isla Mujeres
A pair of foreign tourists were taken into custody after INM (National Immigration Institute) conducted an operation, with support from the Navy, to detect the immigration status of foreigners working or living in Isla Mujeres.
The immigration officials conducted an inspection of a home in colonia Salinas, checking each rental. They found a foreign couple who apparently could not prove their legal status in Mexico. The couple was taken into custody, and transferred to the Naval hospital for a medical examination. (Por Esto explained this was due to one of them having hypertension.). Then they were taken to the offices of INM on Rueda Medina.
These types of inspections are conducted throughout the year and are intended to verify that foreigners have valid documentation. For businesses, their employees should be no more than 10 percent foreigners; therefore if a company has ten employees in total, only one can be from abroad, and the rest must be of domestic origin.
Foreigners must have an immigration document and a permit to work, which is valid for 365 days from the date it is issued, in addition to a valid passport. (Por Esto notes that in a raid on a business, another foreign female was taken into custody. Por Esto reported another foreign female was sought.)

Work begins on road repair
Inician trabajos de reparación de vialidad [+] Ver mas
Heavy machinery began to clear bush and remove debris from the area beside the road that leads to the high school. This will give them access and allow them to build up the foundation of the curbing. There are at least two sections that are at risk of collapse along the side by the airstrip, with the limestone weakened by vibrations and natural erosion.
Workers will renew the asphalt for about a kilometer, as they did on prolongation Rueda Medina in recent months. These two roads are the means of access and egress to the central and southern parts of the island.
The resurfacing work is scheduled to begin on Monday, which will cause closure of the road from the monument to Benito Juarez. This first stage of 550 linear meters is being done with an investment of 3.5 million pesos, and is expected to be completed in 30 days.
This area of ~500 meters will be worked upon in two sections, since the weakened areas represent a risk for heavy trucks to cross over. This section needs renewal of the sidewalks that have been constructed, which will provide more safety for the people who like to jog through the area daily.
The second stage of 800 meters to the kindergarten "Enrique Camarillo" will be done later, after Aguakan makes corrections in its service network.

The FMU (Family Medical Unit) of the IMSS had discontinued providing milk for babies between the ages of six months and one year, without prior notice to their families. One beneficiary said she was receiving five cans monthly, of 400 grams each, until this benefit was discontinued in February, and not reactivated n March, which she says she needs for her seven month old daughter.  One mother who has been affected by this said the doctor justified it because her daughter did not appear to have malnutrition, while she stressed that they need this assistance.
