CFE (Electrical Commission) getting involved in the problem of erosion of Isla Mujeres beaches
Isla Mujeres. –Gerardo Castañeda Adame, superintendent of the Federal Electrical Commission (CFE) in the Cancun zone announced they will begin the process of filing documents with the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) to initiate work to protect the underwater electrical line in the area where there is beach erosion.
The official acknowledged that while this occurs annually, this time the erosion could effect the electrical pipeline that supplies power to the entire island.  He said they will submit documents to SEMARNAT to begin rescuing the area with the help of sacks (sacos), and will look into the possibility of constructing some sort of protection or retaining wall of concrete.
The superintendent visited the site and found several concrete structures called "sleepers" (durmientes) or "muertos" (dead ones) that are affecting the beach sunbathing areas, which is motivating them to intervene quickly. He said several of these structures could even cause injury to tourists, but acknowledged that moving the heavy structures would require the use of 'una grupa de carga pesada' (? ..literally...a group of heavy load)
He said the CFE is obligated to intervene because it is exactly in this area that the underwater transition is located, where the underwater line enters. The official said the CFE has plans to begin changing the line, since it is about be twenty years old.

Paving of coastal road begins Monday
Isla Mujeres. – Miguel Ariel Caballero García, Director de Public Works of Isla Mujeres, confirmed that on Monday they are expected to begin closures for thru traffic along the coastal road, to start resurfacing it.  (se prevé cerrar el transito en la carretera perimetral)  The work will begin at the monument to Benito Juarez, and should be completed, in this first stage, to the tower at the runway. This project involves an investment of 3.5 million pesos, and will be more complicated, because they will work on the 'arropes'.  This work will include approximately 550 linear meters, and the remaining area pending to the kindergarten Enriqueta Camarilio is just over 800 meters.
The work is scheduled to start on Monday, but in advance they have started cleaning the area adjacent to the road. The road will be closed to thru traffic beginning on Monday, said the Director. He said the work should be completed in 30 working days, beginning from Monday. He said they could not begin sooner because the company Aguakan must do some preliminary work before they can begin with the paving work.

CFE removing posts in poor condition
Posted: 05 Mar 2015 08:04 PM PST
postesIsla Mujeres.
They are replacing posts that have been damaged by salt in the air, and have begun in the Aeropuerto area. On Wednesday there were working in La Gloria. They are planning to change six posts per week, in an ongoing program, since the corrosion from the salt air is an ongoing problem. They will be changing posts near the Guadalupe chapel.
Residents are notified and affected by a power outage of a few hours during the change. The residents are notified in advance, especially the stores. Because of the complexity of the work, it is best to work with the current turned off, and that is faster.
