Parents are complaining about restrictions that do not allow the sale of food at the entrance of the middle school, which is not allowing them to bring food to their children at recess. This forces the children to buy food from the cooperative of the school, and the parents say this increases their expenditure.

The school staff said this restriction is not intended to affect the budgets of the parents, and they were seeking to prevent street vendors, because they sell snacks that are not healthy. Also there are housewives who are in the habit of bringing food to sell at the entrance of the campus, such as cakes, tacos, burritos and other items, which is bothersome. To prevent this, yellow tape had been used to create a sort of fence to prevent students from gathering in that area. This practice has also affected some small businesses in the area who deliver orders to the students, and can no longer do this.

The City and the organization Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) signed an agreement to carry out a series of activities to raise awareness about the growing problem of alcoholism among youths. The National Week II of AA for Youths takes place Sept. 8-12. Educational activities will begin at the high school, Colegio Bachilleres, on Monday at 10am. An agreement for this campaign was signed in January, to benefit children from fifth grade thru high school. According to a survey done in 2011 by CONADIC (Consejo Nacional contra las Adicciones) there growing use of alcohol among youths 12-17 which affects more than a third of this group, who have a problem with alcohol or consume it every month. There are also cases in this age group of those who consume alcohol daily or have 'high usage'. Members of AA in Isla Mujeres are scheduled to visit all the primary, middle, and high schools on both the island and the mainland.

About 300 students from the schools “César Mendoza Santana” & “Andrés Quintana Roo” attended environmental workshops about the care and protection of blue crabs, which are endangered, and iguanas, as well to care for and respect all flora and fauna. The workshops began on Wednesday at 9am and last for two hours daily. The educators expect to finish with these tow groups this week, and next they will take the program to the two shifts at the school “Julio Sauri Espinosa”.
The first step is to give information to the students about the dangers that occur when ecological balances are upset, because each species and each plant plays a crucial role in this world. The second phase it to place prevention signs in the areas where these animals cross the roads, so drivers will use caution. The third state will be a mega clean up, with invitations to various private groups and municipal agencies, with the support from the Mayor who is providing the facilities for these environmental workshops .

At 10p, a hotel worker noticed the presence of a Green sea turtle on the west part of the island, which is very unusual since they nest on the eastern side. The turtle was 'surely lost' and the worker tried to make conditions conductive for her to nest, but probably due to the presence of people and the noise in the area, she retreated to find a better location. (The location is not given.)

More than 100 crew members and actors are expected which will benefit the hotel industry. The filming was originally scheduled for Monday Sept. 8 and is being done by the company "Wabi Sabi Films".

Isla Turican bus service has had one unit out o service for more than two weeks, which users blame on lack of maintenance. It is assumed the company has two units for the route, but often there is only one bus circulating, and users complain of waiting up to 45 minutes. They say it is especially bad because they never know if it is in operation or not.

Por Carlos Gasca > Quequi.- Upcoming events that will benefit the promotion of the island include: The filming of the Sabritas commercial featuring Willima Levy, which will take place on Playa Norte in front of Hotel Na Balam, and a program on Sept. 10th filmed by television Koreana EBS WORLD featuring images from Isla Contoy and MUSA, the underwater sculpture museum. From Sept. 11-15th, filmakers from TVE television from Spain will film scenes for their program, “Planeta Comida” (Food Planet), featuring the cuisine of the island. On September 15th, there are ten bloggers expected to visit and see the beauty of Isla Mujeres and promote it on their sites.

Juanita Cahuich, who rents a residence in colonia La Gloria, said she is tired of waiting for the bus which never comes. Her children attend the school Andres Quintana Roo, and says the bus never comes by lately. She says it has been three days and she wants the City to intervene.

On August 31, about 500 athletes, both Mexican and international, are expected to participate in an open water swimming competition, Competencia de Nado de Aguas Abiertas, at Playa Norte/North Beach. The swimmers will travel distances between 250 meters and five kilometers, with the course being defined by a rectangle of buoys off Playa Norte. Dozens of foreigners are expected to participate, especially from the United States.
