Hoy rendirán la protesta de Ley

 The inauguration will take place in Cancun, and members of this group are between the ages of 18 and 28, and work for companies in Isla Mujeres. The goal of this organization within CROC is to attract young adults towards activities such as sports tournaments, social work, and cultural and educational events on the island. This attracts people to the island and keeps them busy, keeping them away from vices like drugs and alcohol. The leader of the union, Román Maldonado Euán, said CROC conducts many activities in Isla Mujeres including training courses, sports activities, health campaigns, and reforestation campaigns.

The Head of the state Human Rights Commission office (CDHeQROO), attended the inauguration and said that although there was no physical office in Isla Mujeres, the agency has been available locally and throughout the country 365 days a year via phone. The local office was reopened ten months after the previous one was closed.
     The official said the main objective of the Human Rights Commission is to enable people to know their rights, because they cannot serve a people who do not know their rights, and these campaigns will resume with an instructor on the island. This year they will analyze how many people they need to work on the island.

Asking for change in trash collection schedule

Piden cambiar horario a camión de la basura

In a request they say is not new, entrepreneurs of Isla Mujeres are seeking a change in the trash collection services from the Public Services department. They say the City Council should have enacted this before the holiday period, because watching the trucks work in broad daylight is uncomfortable for tourists, as well as residents. 
  One entrepreneur commented, "The streets are narrow and on Rueda Medina avenue there is only room for one vehicle, and while the truck works, all traffic stops." Another said the people who are complaining include tourists who get stuck in golf carts behind the truck.

The 866 books were personally delivered to the various preschool-kindergartens by City officials, whose names and titles are listed in the article. They were provided by the Departamento de Distribución de Libros de Texto y Material Educativo of the  SEP.

Aguakan suspends work on tap water network

.Aguakan suspended work to change a tap water pipeline in colonia Caridad del Cobre, and the reason was unknown, but now a worker told the reporter that it was stopped due to a request from the state Dirección de Tránsito. The head of the Dirección de Tránsito, Joaquín Poot Acosta, said they have no authority to stop these works, and the only recommendation that was made was to patch the potholes they created, but he says he never asked them to stop working.
   It is noted that these work consist of changing lines that carry tap water to colonias such as Caridad del Cobre, Cañotal, Miraflores, and part of colonia La Gloria

Tourism service providers said nightlife in Isla Mujeres remains at 50 percent in nightclubs, bars, restaurants, and increases to 70 percent on the weekends. Activity increases after 7pm, and in the bars you see mostly foreign tourists with their friends and in couples, enjoying the classic Caribbean nights.

Luis Fernando Méndez G. Cantón, is a fisherman by trade, but during the whale shark season between May 15 and September 15, he takes tourists to the viewing zone east of Isla Mujeres. He said sightings are  rising this season, while in other sites a slow season is starting, but for Isla Mujeres and Isla Holbox, it is peak season. It is estimated that about 1500 whale sharks are visiting the Caribbean, who come in search of food. He estimates you can see up to 300 whale sharks in their natural habitat, in an area that includes Isla Contoy and Isla Holbox. The trip lasts three or four hours and costs between 1000 and 1500 pesos per person, and includes snacks & beverages on the boat, and lunch at Playa Norte/North Beach in Isla Mujeres.
   The former President of the Holbox Hotel & Motel Association, Alejandrina Selem Salas, said it is like Easter vacation; noting they will be at 100%, not just because it is a good vacation season, but also because between June and August is when there are the largest numbers of sightings.

Fishermen defend easement

Fishermen of the Cooperative "Caribe" planted coco palms last month, 'in defiance' on the easement next to the gasoline station. They are assuming this concession has been allocated for a golf cart business. This was an area of high use for the fishermen and their association's president, Andres Coral, lamented that the office of  Zona Federal Marítimo y Terrestre (Zofemat) have granted a concession on the space.
    Officially Isla Mujeres has no public beach, because they are all concessions, including this 'bocacalle' (mouth of the street) of Abasolo street. Social struggle for this issue has been waged regarding the Posada Beach, where the concession went to the family of former Gov. Jesus Martinez Ross, who tried to build on the beach. People objected, were mobilized, and some leaders went to jail. The family had announced they were no longer interested in the concession after five years, but when the City Council requested it for public beach, the family's interest returned and they renewed the concession.

NEED DIABETES SUPPLIES FOR OCTOBER DIABETES CLINIC: We have been doing Diabetes Clinics on Isla Mujeres for five years, with more local residents participating annually. This is a joint project of bilingual social workers, nurses, and other health care professionals originally from the USA, working with Isleno community partners. Diabetes is now the primary cause of death in Mexico.
We are in great need of donations of glucometers and strips, specifically these brands: Contour, Contour Next and OneTouch. Many doctor's offices, clinics and hospitals discard strips that are almost expired. Strips are actually still effective for at least a year after expiration dates so often those are the ones that are most often donated. If you have any contact with medical professionals or pharmaceutical reps, you can often get current supplies. We can also use lancets, lancet devices, alcohol pads, and syringes.

The walkers will return to the square via Morelos, while the decorated carts go farther down Medina to loop back from the south to the north. There is a contest for the top five decorated carts.

 On August 31, about 500 athletes, both Mexican and international, are expected to participate in an open water swimming competition, Competencia de Nado de Aguas Abiertas, at Playa Norte/North Beach. The swimmers will travel distances between 250 meters and five kilometers, with the course being defined by a rectangle of buoys off Playa Norte. Dozens of foreigners are expected to participate, especially from the United States.
